Political Discussion
Just another nothing burger. These tech Oligarchs already explained they want immigration. I just don't see how your argument does anything. It's like the corporations that try to call us racist because we won't let in these poor people from Latin America, when guess who is down there ruining economies. It sure isn't me. Or blacks that say it's the poor white's fault there was slavery. Oh, but if I don't want immigration, oh I'm racist, because I don't want to let the corporations have only everything they ever wanted. |
Your argument is what exactly? People in another land see an opportunity, pursue it, and some percentage use unscrupulous methods to exploit that system. That's human nature. Would it be okay if it were Americans doing it? Immigration has been a net positive throughout American history. You may not like it and I don't care to change your opinion but facts don't care about your feelings right? So instead shitting on immigrants, how about focusing attention on the wealthy oligarchs that manipulate and abuse the system at the expense of Americans whether they are 1st, 2nd, or nth generation immigrants. |
Remember the Alamo! Oh yes, we are well aware of people that just want a little economic opportunity. Wanna rethink the ramifications of that one? |
WDYM? Economic opportunity is the backbone of the American Dream. That's why pretty must most of our ancestors came here. |

Sixty years ago, on October 3, 1965, President Lyndon Johnson signed the Hart-Celler Immigration Act into law. Little did the man who declared war on poverty know that he was restarting mass immigration, ending the Great Leveling, and ushering in a new era of economic inequality.
Ironically, Johnson Congress created new economic barriers to equality within a month of passing landmark civil rights legislation. George Fishman, who has served in both the Executive and Legislative Branches, likens their mistake to a Greek tragedy. But what once could be forgiven as a costly but honest miscalculation must now be acknowledged as a willful refusal to manage immigration in the national interest. Despite the temporary improvements at the border over the last few months, mass legal immigration continues at levels well beyond what federal commissions have recommended or Americans voted for. It’s easy for Congress to break its promises, and so very very hard to keep them. “The bill will not flood our cities with immigrants. It will not upset the ethnic mix of our society. It will not relax the standards of admission.” --Ted Kennedy, 1965 Immigration Bill (Hart-Celler) where are the future Democratic leaders that will make Democrats the party of labor again????? |
My view of the "Civil Rights" era has changed quite a bit recently. My current view(don't confuse this with any views you may have), is that the Democrats were intentionally fragmenting the working classes (civil rights) giving nominal short term workers protections. EG a minimum wage not indexed to inflation. In exchange for long-term structural inequities. |
