This is simply not true. There are entire agencies still in existence that this administration would love to see gone. Granted, they exist due to statute but that hasn't stopped these people before.

Take the chance and have the Supreme Court say a statute is meaningless. The system is worthless otherwise!!

No one concerned with Hegseth calling a meeting of all military leaders early next week with no set agenda? Timing is odd given the potential shut down.

The entire OMB section but especially p.45 discussing exercising political authority through the apportionment process.

"No Director should be chosen who is unwilling to restore apportionment decision-making to the [political appointee's] personal review, who is not aggressive in wielding the tool on behalf of the President’s agenda, or who is unable to defend the power against attacks from Congress."

Extremely concerned. I bet it's a loyalty oath and then those that don't sign will be fired. And then non legal orders will be issued.

It's not up to the federal workforce--or me, personally, for the PP criticizing my selfishness-- to make up for their electoral weakness and legislative incompetence.

By this "logic," if you can call it that, Democrats should acquiesce to all of the Doge cuts, downsizing and RIFs that Republicans propose. "We lost the election, do whatever you like!" You good with that, PP?

You are dramatically understating the cuts that Republicans want to make.

Where are these cuts listed? Is there a place that shows what they want?

Democrats DID acquiesce to all of this. They did nothing while thousands of federal workers were fired -- and that is why they are picking this pointless fight now over the clean CR, and that is why I object.

Ask yourself if Mitch McConnell would have stood by helplessly and said, we're out of the majority, nothing we can do, had this happened when Rs were in the minority. No. They would have come up with every creative legislative tool to jam up the works - stalling nominees, blue slips, filibusters, whatever. But Ds were steamrolled and feel bad about that now, so we are stuck with this performative nonsense.

So they should continue to do nothing. Right.

In the 2019 shutdown, remember it was Trump who gave in.

It was also Trump who caused it.

No? Then don't expect federal workers to make the same sacrifice to satisfy your politics.

I'm a fed. Everyone in my office thinks the Dems should stand firm. I don't believe you're a fed.

sounds like we need to balance the feds in that they reflect the voting makeup of the country

Which seems a lot easier to do with the government hampered by a shut down.

I heard OPM directed agencies to not move around funds so that agencies can use carryover. Is that true?
Anonymous
I had not heard that, although the OMB memo did say not to repurpose balances or assume use of transfer authorities - we always use carryover funds to continue operations for the first week or first pay period of any shutdown. This is not good if true.

*Raises hand* Mentioned that in another thread. Suspicious timing.
