In most big cities violent crime is declining. In Washington the opposite is true

To be fair, these aren’t DC criminals. We have plenty of our own.

Office of Neighborhood Safety and Engagement (ONSE), created to address violence in the District while assisting grieving and trauma-stricken families. Funded in 2024 at $31 million

Office of Gun Violence, which houses the Building Blocks program launched in 2021. Since then, that program has granted $2.6 million to individuals and community organizations via “mini-grants” of $5,000 and “mini-plus” grants of $15,000 to fight violence in targeted neighborhoods. In fiscal 2024, the program has awarded 12 mini-grants and 16 mini-plus grants totaling $300,000.
The $88 million Department of Youth Rehabilitation Services earmarks nearly $70 million for youth and family programs.

The Violence Interupters

The Culture Agents on ATVs and scooters…

Don’t forget DC taxpayers paying for a family’s $6000 Florida vacation. That would have bought several patrol bikes for MPD cops.

You can’t prevent stupid. I think we do need to think some sort of universal basic income. What else are you going to do with the poorly educated and criminally inclined? Other than elect them onto the Council that is.

Looks like FIFA made the right call in not hosting any matches in the upcoming World Cup in the District.

Oh wow did that fail too?! FFS

That failure happened years ago, before the spike, and would have been in Baltimore anyway. FedEx Field's field is too small.

Wow this is stunning. Also, these two guys look like mutants. I dont say that to dehumanize them (they did that to themselves). They actually look like mutants.

Really? USMNT will be playing there soon. I also believe the Premier League has played at FedEx. But you knew you were just lying.
The rejection of DC as a host city happened less than two years ago while the increase in criminality was happening.
FIFA rightly rejected DC.

Those weren't/aren't real games. The rejection of DC/Baltimore had nothing to do with crime, it was a failure all of its own. Crime is a problem in DC right now but the sort of loud obnoxious disingenuousness you are exhibiting does not help the cause.

Those kick and giggle exos you guys overpay for aren’t real games with real standards. But be wrong more if you want.

You're wrong. FIFA doesn't give a shit about "crime." FedEx Field is a dump and FIFA knew it coming in.

The crime happened in PG County, Maryland. Not the District. And the criminals are from Maryland. Horrible crime. Blaming DC's police, citizens or policies is a bit silly.

I was just going to post that. Whomever putting that together deserves a lot of thanks. It's a must read for all of us.

Eh, there’s a lot of blind person touching an elephant here. Maybe they’re right, but if it turns out that the real explanation is just crime goes up in the summer crime goes down in the winter, this post is going to age like milk, and they will look pretty foolish.

The numbers in regards to the MPD and the USAO both choosing to not doing their jobs is damning.

It absolutely is damning. And nothing in the SecureDC bill will address it.

I think it is fairly clear MPD chooses not to do their jobs. USAO at least has one partial excuse- MPD brings bad cases they can't prosecute.

MPD needs far, far more scrutiny. They whine about the defund movement but that was nearly four years ago. It is not the only reason, if a reason at all, that they aren't doing their jobs. There have been numerous stories and testimony about MPD not doing anything when confronted with crime.

Oh, it's the more recent police reform legislation? I have yet to see concrete examples in the quantity it would take to explain their dismal arrest rates.

So basically MPD leadership- I am not going to impugn the rank-and-file - has instituted a culture where they won't do their jobs if they object to Council legislation. Outrageous. It sounds like Chief Smith is trying to change it and I hope she does.

This. All this. Some heads probably need to roll in MPD. In no other branch of government workers would we tolerate people purposely not doing their jobs AND then rubbing it in the faces of the taxpayers.

Where can we donate to the recalling Charles Allen effort? And on that topic... #RecallFrumin

The post referenced DMV. Many arrested have been arrested in multiple jurisdictions, including one of these thugs arrested previously in DC, I believe.

We have come to this. There were some egregious and well publicized (rightfully) incidents of police violence in the past decade that the social justice crowd applied Part for Whole thinking to dismantle justice and policing. Maybe some of you upset by this were part of that. I'm sure you are good people, but by dismantling all justice and policing, now we are here.

We have an anarchical society - open borders, looting shops, shooting babies. We are not willing to expect the most basic civility from anyone, and we don't teach civics or shared manners in school. We have dismantled all of our social apparatus. And now we are here.

Any remedy layered on top of this will be so much worse, than if the social justice crowd has worked for evolution, not revolution. Yes, you all are real change-makers. Congratulations on the society you've created for the next generation. Not this baby of course. Because now we are here .
