That was the plan before, but not now. I think after the Georgia indictment, all the other Republican candidates realized that there was no way Trump could win - his campaign won't have enough funds to fight, and none of the big donors will fund a losing proposition.

So Vivek is pivoting ever so slightly (saying he'd have certified the election, for example), to try to run as an actual Presidential candidate. Which is not going to be easy, considering he's not white and he needs to appeal to a cohort of racist dudes. Being picked by Trump as a token non-white VP would have been fine, and a reason to say "see, we're not racist". But as actual President? Bridge too far for those people. Same for a woman. There's no way the Trump base would vote for Nikki, or any other woman.

As an Indian, I have to admit he is typical in one way. He saw a job opportunity that could last his whole life and went for it with all his energy. Really, what other job would he be good for anyway?

He wants attention. This man is all ego. But he has no interest in being president. That would require work and being well informed, which he has no interest in. Ramaswamy is a grifter. Nothing more. Nothing less. He swindles investors. Now he swindles low information voters. He's the shiny new object for a brief moment in time. A year from now, no one will remember him.
