She's been trolling us all along

Would love to hear from the posters who insisted three pages back that she's not "signaling" anything with her clothes.

Also, ten years from now I think it will be crystal clear that calling things "woke" was just a racist, sexist, and homophobic dog-whistle and people will be embarrassed that they threw the term around the way they did.

No, the people using that kind of language are the same kind of people in Germany who “didn’t know what was happening.” They always absolve themselves.

Oh, please. Can we go back to clothes and fashion and you open another thread a few blocks down with your moralizing.

Sure.

The people over on the politics thread who said she looks like a drag Queen were right. She looks like she’s in drag. It’s campy and not very effective and in a cis woman looks completely mental.

A lot of women aspire to look exactly like her and will dress in a similar fashion even if she didn't exist. For me as a foreigner she looks very American. Her dressing might be kitchy, but it's not camp in any way. That would be a compliment.

Your imagination about how Americans dress does not make her outfits any less campy. Seriously, she could be in the opening scenes of To Wong Foo, Thanks For Everything, Julie Newmar.

Good for you.

People who are photographed a lot generally need to have exaggerated styling. Her hair is SO high in all these photos, but I think she knows the proportions work for her face. So it might look weird/jarring in person or if you look closely, but it makes her look better in the photos if you’re just glancing at them. It’s like stage makeup. The clothes are costume-y because it’s all exaggerated for effect. She’s not trying to look like a normal person.

I don’t get this complaint. Isn’t Ron DeSantis all about literally demonizing the people who are the market for fashion magazines? Isn’t that just a business decision? They pick the cover model to sell issues. Like what would the headline be, “Casey DeSantis Thinks You’re Evil?”

You're still confusing camp with kitch, but hey, that only means her style is even more sophisticated and deliberate.

It's absolute nonsense that she looks like a drag queen. And it's absurd how you like the sound of that statement, but you don't want it to sound derogatory, because looking like a drag queen shouldn't be bad...just ineffective and "completely mental" (?!).
Her dressing is very effective, don't worry about it

It's because you are not a native that you can't see that she looks American (-1960-70s) not American ( 21 century.) It's a great look when you're playing to the cheap seats in the theater.

Hit submit too soon:
And that's why people are talking about drag. It's hyper-feminine and almost theatrical in modern times, not a usual choice for a politician's wife

it’s not a usual choice for anyone who isn’t playing cinderella or dragarella

I think she's gorgeous. So I can completely understand why liberals would hate her. Can't have women be *too* pretty, and certainly not smart along with it!

It’s because you are not a professional designer that you can’t imagine that your views on style are still amateur.

I don't mind at all what you've said. Politicians don't prioritize any style except as a means to an end. This is a deliberate message and not just style for style's sake.

She's absolutely stunning! For a NJ housewife. I would not trade my forehead for her 2-head at all.

Jealous? Well, no not at all. But as a Dem, we won't threaten to rape her or kill her like you do our pretty female politicians.

+1 If only she'd wear some Birkenstocks or a pantsuit!
