Referring to piano player.

Portia was just trying to get lucky. The guy was doing his mating dance.

Portia is such a loser. Just throw your phone away and stop whining!

She is also very average looking and is a fool for not liking the rich guy Albie who likes her! Oh well I was stupid too when I was her age

She's not going to age well. I know because I was her. (Or should I say I am her). Cute when young but not particularly attractive in my mid 40s.
Meanwhile Albie will age very well.

Work on loving yourself more

I do love myself! I have lots of friends, a good marriage to an attractive and kind husband, a job I love and 3 great kids. Plus two dogs.

But I was definitely someone who was "cute and spunky" or whatnot in my youth vs. being a beauty.
I see a lot of myself in Portia. Her looks (and mine) are not ones that generally age well. Who knows. Maybe she'll turn into a great beauty in middle age.
Whether she ages well or not does preclude her to happiness and a fulfilling life.

You are so sad

Huh? I'm sorry you are defined by your looks.

Haley Lu Richardson who plays Portia is really gorgeous IRL and I think it's a testament to her acting chops that she's done a bit of a glow down for the role. I don't think Portia is ugly at all but she has an awkwardness and a beaten down quality that is not just the wardrobe or styling. Specifically, Richardson is doing stuff with her face that really makes Portia look young and kind of hopeless, to the point where I almost can't recognize her. She actually played a somewhat related character in Columbus (young, underachiever, a little lost) but that character was more sensitive and tuned in and this one is very numbed out and helpless.

It's interesting to me how many of these actresses are playing people that you have a kind of knee-jerk dislike to (Harper is so negative, Portia so whiny, Tanya so vapid and unstable, Valentina so rules-bound and rude) but they are playing them with real empathy. I certainly identify far more with Harper or Portia or Valentina than with Daphne, who is lovely but also I don't really get? She's also the only one whose background I have no sense of. I know either from being told or from the way they behave where the others are from, how they grew up and became the person they are. But Daphne I have no idea. She could be some rich girl who went to Vassar and always knew she'd marry a rich finance guy and is living the same life her mom is living, or she could be from a humble background and just have been inherently beautiful and charming and caught Cameron's eye in school or at a bar in New York and won him over. I have no idea. She like a mirage -- beautiful but I can't tell if there is anything underneath or if it's just sand.

She has almost chameleon looks. She is quite pretty but can also look quite plain.

You know, you’re insulting the looks of an actress, not a fictional character.

DP. Give me a break. She’s attractive, but they cast this particular actress for a reason. As well as Albie. They’re supposed to be average looking. That’s how casting works.

I mean, none of the women on this show are Grace Kelly or Elizabeth Taylor. Why pick on this one?

They put her in ridiculous clothes on purpose. She’s a slave to Tanya. Everything about her character is inviting us to dump on her.

So you think punching down is perfectly acceptable then? Personally I find her much more relatable and likeable than Tanya (who is no great looker herself).

Oh my goodness. Punching down? These are fictional characters. Of course she’s more relatable and likable than Tanya. Tanya is supposed to evoke nothing but pity.

Look, just stop ragging on her looks. Or post a photo of yourself, so we can decide where you fall on the beauty scale.

She’s a short fat frumpy lawyer you won’t get a pic

It is amazing how this TV show thread repeatedly brings out the nastiest in people. We’re heading towards moderators having to clean this thing up again.

God I hope so. I'm not as interested in the personal insults to other posters as i am in hearing opinions on the actual show.

This is kind of what I like about Daphne. I feel like she is masking a lot. About a lot of things. She finds it easier to do that then deal with anything real going on with her/her life. She's letting a little bit of her guard down with Harper but will be right back to the mask when she returns to the resort.

He’s the poster child for the effeminate, SJW, non athlete, over educated confused American Gen z/millennial boy.

Basically a victim of brainwashing, immasculation of men which starts in elementary school where kids aren’t allowed weapons pretend play

Not most Halloween costumes any more…

Short, stocky, nose ring, bad clothes, waddle walks paired with the tall, dark haired Stanford grad from the Hollywood family….. and he’s way above average looking and prob lost weight to play the role younger.

They both lack any self confidence. And both are looking someone, anyone, to order them around m, take charge and tell them what to do.

Good lord, I never ragged on her looks. I said she was attractive and I think she probably looks like a knockout in real life. Her character, however, is absolutely meant to be average looking. (As am I!)

I disagree. She's not showy and glamorous - not sexy - but she's cute and attractive for sure. The actress herself is very attractive - not that it should matter, but she is!

This. Her clothes are typical GenZ aggressively frumpy, but she is lovely, with eyebrows and eyes to die for.

Good lord, what is with the Ethan hate? Just because he’s not a bombastic, swaggering fintech bro like Cameron? Or because he’s part Asian?

I like Ethan a lot. Probably because I married a Cameron.

Sameeee.

And I'm sure most of the women that married an Ethan are lusting over the Cameron's like Harper, wanting some 'bad boy, alpha action'.

Nope. Married an Ethan, still can't stand the Cameron type, and neither can my DH. We roll our eyes at them together.

The thing about Cameron is that he is clearly very insecure and a lot of his "charm" and alpha bro behavior is just trying to pump himself up because of that insecurity. Remember that he's the one who is bothered by Harper disliking him or judging them -- Daphne doesn't feel threatened by it at all. It's a Donald-and-Melania dynamic. He needs everyone to like him and also fear him so he feels like a big man, and she knows she's beautiful and rich and is content to just enjoy that and if someone dislikes her, they're probably just jealous.

I don’t think a guy lack that follows up with someone twice to ask “do you like me, I want you to like me” unless he’s scheming. He’s not insecure, unless you mean he’s blowing through his money and reputation at work and wants to protect his image. He is def not insecure that someone’s woke wife is not into him.

I thought that scene on the wave runners into the sun set was gay AF. ethan's prob bisexual at least.

I’m confused by everyone jumping to the conclusion that Ethan is gay, when Cameron is the one who kissed Ethan’s face multiple times during this episode. He also told Ethan “you’re a handsome guy, I’d do ya” in the first episode. I mean, they both could be not entirely straight but I’m puzzled that no one has noted Cameron’s distinctly flirtatious behavior and physical overtures with Ethan, since we’re parsing sexualities here.

Cameron is a manipulator who uses his sexuality to get what he wants.
If he were gay he'd be out, doing his thing, and sleeping with whomever he wanted.

Ethan is clearly not fully aware or accepting of his own sexuality (whatever it may be) and very repressed and lacking self confidence. He's hiding something. Whereas Cameron is hiding nothing. He's just a shallow man whore frat boy. Of course he'd do Ethan. Doesn't mean he's gay or even bi. He's just promiscuous.

Um, what?
