FCPS Masking Update

I think you're a piece of work-maybe Brabrand cares about the safety of children. You'd be the first to sue if your child was hurt due to FCPS not calling a snow day correctly. Put a sock in it.

Could he at least wait till it snows before calling the snow day? I doubt he gives a damn about my kids.

They don't mask inside their house! The preschooler got it at school and brought it home. It's not about masks not working for adults or older kids. Everyone kniws that little kids aren't going to madk perfectly. Plus they have to unmask when eating or sleeping at preschool.

Your argument fails.

Masks DO help reduce the amount of innoculum. They are not perfect, but they help.

The real question is whether we are at a level of infectiousness in Fairfax where masking is no longer needed or where the burden of masking outweighs the benegits given low incidence.

I think we are or will be soon.

K-12 kids take their masks off at lunch. By your logic, it’s pointless-like people have been saying.

Masks reduce exposure, they don't eliminate it.

And you don't see a difference between exposure to a few kids near you at lunch vs exposure to hundreds of kids during the school day (high school) .

You don't see the difference between reducing the amount of exposure during 7 hours of contact while accepting 30 min of higher potential exposure (during meals) because starving is not an option?

If not, then masking isn't your biggest problem, low intelligence is.

You have an intelligence problem if you think cloth masks work well after the cdc said they don’t.

DP: That's why people who care about it send their kids in better quality masks. But cloth masks still do lessen transmission of virus than nothing. So I have my kid wear a good mask, but the amount of virus in the air is less if another kid is wearing ANY kind of mask than none.
Here's the full guidance:

Except you have a large population that doesn’t have the finances to buy better masks. It’s also ridiculous to find them sometimes in the stores. I buy them from Costco and it drives me crazy that every time I need them they are out. Buying the shitty masks from Amazon? Your kids are breathing god knows what chemicals from these masks and on top of it they have growing bacteria, saliva and food particles stuck inside the mask all day. In a few years there will be studies done that will finally prove that masking kids for such long periods was harmful- increase in allergies, asthma, eczema…will they tell us now? Absolutely not they will lie and lie as long as it serves their agenda. Most of you say you believe in science- what you are forgetting is that government is in charge what is actually shared with public, so there is a ton of data that is not shared because it does not support what they want people to do right now.

I agree. Cloth masks or nothing for us. The chemicals in the other masks. And for 7 hours. No way

So you have inside knowledge that the surgeon general’s family was masking 24/ 7? What a dumb argument against masks. Look, no one likes wearing the damn things, but they do provide some mitigation. I think it’s silly to argue that they do absolutely nothing.

The CDC said cloth masks are merely facial decorations. What something do they do besides decorate the face?

It helps when a small child sneezes or cough and doesn't cover the mouth. I'm sure you've never worked in a school.

So, you're advocating for endless masking then.

Covid doesn’t spread primarily by droplets which is why all the hygiene/sanitizing/cleaning theater was ultimately pointless. It’s airborne and the particles are so small that a cloth mask won’t filter them out.

Maryland is talking about dropping the statewide school mask mandate AND ending contact tracing and quarantine in schools. Their state superintendent recognizes a need to return kids to normal. We are more vaxxed here than parts of Maryland.

Are you new here, hon? Because what you are complaining about has been the norm in FCPS since . . . forever. Ditto closing for hurricanes that never materialize or that materialize in less intensity than we expected. This is it, here. And precedes, and will follow, Braband.

Best make your peace with it.

FTFY.

But in a time of vaccines we shouldn’t do intrusive mask mandates when the cdc says the ones most kids wear don’t work.

FCPS will never wise up unless their hand is forced.

You guys are such idiots if you think Scott Brabrand is personally responsible for choosing snow days. That's usually the transportation department, actually.

I do think the direction the first week of January was heavy handed on snow days for corona reasons but in general - aside from that - I don’t think Brabrand makes the snow day call.

They are locking themselves into the CDC guidelines. In normal times, that is a smart move. But, given how CDC has been out to lunch on this, it puts FCPS in an out-of-date position.

But, good news -- CDC is supposed to issue new guidelines sometime. So, maybe that will give FCPS cover to update their policy. If not, we always have March 1st!
