Public Trump Impeachment Hearing Mega Thread

McConnell is a wily guy. He is without a doubt the most effective Senate Majority leader since Lyndon Johnson.

Schumer is like a babe in the woods. I actually feel sorry for him.

Something you don't see every day: Alcee Hastings, a former federal judge impeached and removed from the bench for taking bribes, participating in a House hearing that sets the rules for an impeachment.

And these are the guys calling for the impeachment of a president ..............

Yep. He is also under an ethics investigation.

That should have happened in the House hearings.
The Senate is the jury. They don't call witnesses.

McConnell is only capable of obstruction, because the Senate rules make it easy. He is the least effective Senate Majority Leader in modern history at actually getting anything done or resolved. They couldn't even pass appropriations and actually shut down the government when the Republicans controlled the White House, House, and Senate. Pelosi had to come in and negotiate the budget deal four months into the fiscal year and has had to do it again this year while McConnell does nothing.

Have you ever seen a trial? There is witness testimony.

Remember Merrick Garland and how he killed that nomination.

He got Gorsuch confirmed and has confirmed more judges in the past three years than under any other president.

And his slapdown of Schumer today was classic.

And, that happens during the House hearings. Then, the House presents its evidence to the Senate (the jury).
The Senate aka, Jury, does not call witnesses.

Part of the reason this is an issue is that the DOJ didn't do its job in allowing the proper authorities investigate the whistleblower report. Why do you suppose Barr didn't want anyone snooping around this, given he was personally cited in the July 25th call? So the burden fell on the House, unprecendent, because the Executive was covering up. You don't get it both ways, sorry, the American public deserve to hear from Bolton and Pompeo under oath. They refused the House, the should be forced by the Chief Justice to appear before the Senate.

I mean, if they can clear the President, why fight it, right?

So true,.......

https://twitter.com/senatemajldr/status/1207021893397680128

It is remarkable that, before House Democrats have even passed articles of impeachment, Senate Democrats are already pivoting to new demands for the Senate to re-do Chairman Schiff’s homework for him.

It is the House’s duty to meet the high bar for undoing a democratic election *before* they impeach. Speaker Pelosi herself once said it was the House’s job to “build an ironclad case.”

The fact that my colleague is already desperate to sign up the Senate for new fact-finding suggests that even Democrats who do not like this president are beginning to realize how dramatically insufficient the House’s rushed process has been.

I'm amazed at how mendacious and honorless Republican leaders are.

Remarkable indeed.

Nothing to clear.

The Democrats have not made a case which is why they want a redo in the Senate.

Face it: Schiff f---ed up!

Pompeo and Bolton could have testified. But they cannot clear Trump. We all know that.
