The School Board rep for SLHS who doesn't want to lose any students to Skyview. If they behave the same way again there are enough Oakton parents who vocally oppose moving to Skyview to probably get their way.

That suggests they’ll either move Fox Mill or just start Skyview off with four feeders and invite pupil placements. Meren may want to keep Fox Mill at South Lakes, but she doesn’t have veto rights and she’s not part of the ruling junta on the School Board. On the other hand, Reid may hope that pupil placements will boost Skyview’s test scores and overall profile.

Your definition of “pushed around” is vastly different than ours. Just sounds like sour grapes.

Well, they are claiming (again) that they are going to be guided by the factors in their boundary policy when crafting the boundaries for Skyview, but they just deferred to those who yelled the loudest last time.

Sounds like you don’t like accountability.

I have said from the beginning that Fox Mill would not be in the boundary because of Meren. She may let all of Floris go, however.

The logical option was-and still is --the one that sent McNair, Coates, Floris, and Oak Hill. It was the only one that makes sense. RIO screwed that up.

It made sense for many reasons--but mostly because it met the requirements for a boundary shift that were stated in the comprehensive boundary study,. Tell me, why would they set those standards for one boundary shift and not another.

Distance, overcrowding, etc. Split feeders are still an issue in this area and will continue to be.

How would Oakton parents “screw up” boundary changes that only move kids from Chantilly and Westfield to Skyview and other Chantilly and Centreville kids to Westfield?

Should have included Crossfield in that list. I think that was Option A--the most logical solution that made the most sense. Sorry, my bad. Most of Crossfield should be at Skyview. They could send all those kids on the east (north?) side of Reston Parkway go to South Lakes since Fox Mill Woods is already there. Send Franklin Farm and Navy Island to Skyview along with all of Floris. The loss to South Lakes from Floris kids could be made up by those on the northeast side of Reston Parkway

They are not going to turn Crossfield into MORE of a split feeder than it already is.

Crossfield Elementary is a smaller school with 2-3 classes per grade level, currently a majority of the kids go to Carson Middle and Oakton HS, a small group of kids go to South Lakes HS.

Skyview makes sense in many ways for the Crossfield kids to attend, it is a MUCH shorter commute.

We will see how it plays out in a few weeks when the "proposed" boundaries are released for Skyview!

Makes perfect geographic sense to send those on northeastern side of Reston Parkway to South Lakes. So much closer than Oakton. And, send those on southwestern side between Reston Parkway/West Ox and 286 to Skyview.

Simple and saves money in transportation costs. Safer, too.
