| Not sure why the DC schools could not look out the window at 6 AM and adopt a two hour delay. Tried to drive anxious child to school because of a test today, but have had to pull off the road because of all the wrecks. Man, I thought all the schools got together so they could make better calls. They really blew it this morning. I get that it is still my responsibility as a parent and that people are human – I just needed to vent because it was scary out there on the road and it feels better to be angry than frightened. |
| Honestly, it would be better for people to learn how to drive in the snow and be prepared. They have consistently cancelled school when it hasn't been that bad, which has been equally frustrating. I want school to go a week longer at this point! |
| The snow will be worse at the 2hr delay time. It is a small amount is snow. It is manageable. |
| Get over yourself. |

This is 1 inch of snow! Come on!

| My son texted that his MCPS high school first period had so many kids absent the teacher is not teaching today. They blew it!!! |
That is why I send my kid to private. They would actually teach the kids. |
I don't know. My daughter is sitting in the auditorium of her private because not even half of the teachers have made it in. There are 20 freshman with her from a class of over 150. Big accident at the intersection near the school has everyone stuck. |
People don't have snow tires, and the road is cold enough for the snow to stick. I've seen several Montgomery Schoolbuses stuck in traffic or pulled over, and there are a lot of reports of accidents. And the poster who mentioned the teachers is correct -- a high proportion of the teachers live further out where the road conditions are worse. I think the schools (a) were worried about all the prior delays/cancellations; and (b) thought it would be like yesterday -- snow flurries with no effects. |
Back at you, weather bitch. |
| Hey folks- many roads have not been treated at all. East -West highway is scattered with cars that did 180's. We turned around our 4 wheel drive after cars around us slid out of control and into each other. I am sure if this was December schools would have been delayed or cancelled -- pressure not to cut into vacation days is understandable, but dangerous. This is the first time this New England family though road conditions were too poor to drive at 7:15 am |
It might be a version of "all politics is local" -- if the temp is a few degrees warmer in DC (as it generally is), and the roads are fine near the people in DC (including school administrators), it is hard to picture that the road conditions are that poor just 5-10 miles further out. I'm a transplanted New Englander as well (and know how to drive in snow, although it's harder without the snow tires of my youth), and agree that the road conditions are actually quite bad and that a light car without heavy tread tires will not be able to make it up a hill of reasonable grade that has been untreated. Saw a lot of evidence of this so far this morning. |

| I drove from AU to St. Alban's to downtown - no issues at all - no accidents. I took it slow - like the cars around me. |
