That is awesome that you were able to make it from 1 mile away to St. Albans. Probably all your child's teachers also live within a 1 mile radius of the school in their multimillion dollar houses. |
| Archbishop Carrol - 2 hour delay... |
| We drove from up 270 to Holton. No issues. And gasp, we have never lived in New England. I can't believe we could even navigate thru the "blizzard." Amazing. |
Thanks for the input, Señora smug |
That's a ridiculous statement, of course. But I thought I'd mention that I just did drop off at a private. The head of school and half the male faculty are outside redirecting traffic. The parking lot is icy and cars can't make it up a hill to the exit. Now the one way entrance it two way. So they're not teaching, I heard the kids were in the gym. We were about 15 minutes after school was supposed to start and the carpool drop off was still 20 cars long. So, everyone has a story and not all privates are able to be teaching right now. |
Its also a lie. |
I drove my three kids to two different schools and had no issues. Come on people- there are a few flakes of snow out
|
Speaking of flakes.... |
| Big accident by Sidwell this morning! Many of the back roads were closed. A mess! My kids don't go there but I imagine its a nightmare. |
| Man up! This is viewed as 'snow mist' in many parts of the country, |

I think school should have been cancelled today based on my (very short and easy) drive through NW DC. I drove my son from home (Kent/Spring Valley area) to St Albans this morning at 7:15, so a very short drive. We went a different way than usual because a delivery truck was stuck on Foxhall Road going down the hill. According to my husband it was gone by 7:45 when he took other kid to school. That said, after dropping kid at STA, I headed down Mass Ave to RockCreek Pkwy to my office near the Hill. Streets were a little slippery and one had to be especially careful of other cars/bad drivers. As I passed the Kennedy Center the snow was really coming down and visibility was poor. Wish I had my camera though because there were tons of water fowl hunkered down on the Potomac and coated with snow. Poor birds looked damn cold but would have been a cool picture and the background would have been pure white.
Considering my drive was a 1/4 of what lots of families do to get to schools across the area, I think it was a mistake to get kids up and out on the roads today. |
My kids are still home, Gaithersburg to Visi...we have our own delay. |
| Drove from Arlington to Springfield this morning. Took it slow and arrived with no problem. Kept hearing on WTOP about crashes and spinouts all over the place but I didn't see a single accident or car on the side of the road. We were all driving slow on the Beltway in Fairfax County. |
DH, who grew up in Michigan and went to school in New England, insisted on driving DD from CC, MD to upper NW campus today. He said there should have been a 2-hour delay, particularly since so many upper school kids drive themselves to school. |
