I'm the guy you're all bitching about. I'm not a TD at any club. What people expect from their $3k is unobtainable.

1. As a parent you cannot be objective about your own child.
2. The reality is most clubs and coaches, I believe, do try to have a good product. That doesn't mean it actually happens.
3. It's just an activity and your child's mileage will vary as well as your experience but it truly is, for most kids, it is a zero sum game.
4. There is no magic club.
5. Just enjoy it.

The above is pretty much my personal opinion. I don't like club bashing because I believe in most instances it really lacks proper perspective. Mostly, I really don't know what the parent expected from the program is to gauge whether their complaint is justified or not. Blame is often wrongfully cast. Quite often it is as much the parents delusional expectations as it is bad coaching or poor club management.

So while I respect that we all want the most of our $3k "investment" I'm gonna tell you that you are going to be disappointed if that is how you view it. If you want a almost guaranteed fun time spend that $3k on a family trip not soccer. Travel sports are competitive, unpredictable and on top of it they are kids trained by people of varying degrees of skill. Accept that and you'll be fine and you'll understand what I'm about and getting at. Don't accept that and you'll think I'm a TD who just wants your money. If your the later I don't really give a fuck, you are and will have a miserable experience with your kids endeavors no matter what they are because you expect a return on your "investment" that is not in line with reality.

Just curious, are you the same guy that used the word fu#%tard about 50 pages ago ?

No, that was not me.

It was me and I'm a woman. I know more about soccer than the average chest-strutting fucktard dad with his head up the coach's ass. I definitely played at much higher levels than them. I certainly don't walk around in little boy clothes to show my soccer knowledge.

The big clubs do a piss poor job of developmental. They use the large player pools to just select in dubious physical attribute that will disappear by age 16/17.

What do people know about NextGen Soccer? Where do they train? North of Baltimore I heard. I heard it is by invitation only. How do they scout? How many kids are in the program? Do they play games other than take kids to European tournaments? Where do all the kids come from? How often do they train? What age groups? I heard it's free. How to you stay in the program? Do you have to earn your spot week to week? month to month? Thanks.

Ha!! I hear ya. I am also former high-level woman player (that played on plenty of top boys teams in the local area) and a few National Championship titles--college and travel), I also loathe the stereotypical pack of dude dads dressed either in the same gear as the kids on the field or FIFa'd up over their potbellies giving their running shitty commentary and bashing other people's kids. Dude, if your kid has yours or your wife's genetics, I wouldn't be wasting my $. Hope it's the mailman's so you can continue living vicariously through him. Fucktard aptly describes the lot.

I pick a club based on the least number of these fucktards on the sidelines. Ironically, the talent of trainers and coaches is usually inversely proportional to the number of fucktards on the sidelines. Most true soccer clubs don't put up with that shit and aren't politicking with the parents. They only care about soccer and the kids/-not their popularity with the parents. I also would not do any of the "big 3 CCL" clubs with younger kids. That was my closest option and I needed Xanax to get through the year. Miserable existence and complete waste of time. It was taking two giant steps backwards in development. We worked all summer to undo the damage.

It's good now that I can't understand 1/2 the Spanish, Portuguese and German speaking sideline. I'm much happier not having to listen to yo-dad. Btw, what are all of these dudes doing on a "mom's blog"?

Well, that escalated quickly.

So ... impressions of VPL? Are we allowed to talk about that?

Of course you are certainly allowed to talk about VPL. You are also allowed to both beat the dead horse and fuck yourself with the same stick.

That said, VPL, like all leagues has some strong and weak clubs and teams. Some strong clubs have some weak teams and some weak clubs have some strong teams. It is just a league like many others.

Honestly, just because you played college soccer 10 years ago, won some National Championships, and or played pro...does not mean you know shit about how to develop a soccer player. It mean NA!-THING! or that you are an authority on NOVA travel soccer. Nothing! So save it. Really. You sound f-ing stupid.

The development of U9 does not involve a 90-minute free scrimmage for practices with almost no supervision. It does not involve teaching of player movement. TDs should be in at the entry level--not waiting to see them until they are 14.

If you had good player development yourself, you know how to recognize when it's being done correctly.

Sorry^^ it does involve teaching of player movement to create space.

Having family members that started some of the programs in this area. Parents that coached State teams. Siblings, nieces and nephews that have played at almost ever club in the DMV. Yea--pretty much an authority and know the history and knew most of the major players on the scene when they were kids.

Anyone else get the feeling we all assume who's saying what, and we yell at each other based not on what they're saying but what we think they may have said several pages ago?

Yes. Donald Trump at 3am.

He's responsible for most of it.

"North of Baltimore" is kind of a stretch for this area, too. If someone asked the same question about something in Montgomery or Fairfax counties, I think we'd have a response by now.

Yes, it's north of Baltimore but they pull kids from this area. That's why I asked here.
