Calling unrealized capital gains AT DEATH “unrealized” is a huge misnomer.

Money is taxed when it changes hands.

When you die, the money is going to change hands.

This is actually one of the fairest and most painless ways to generate tax income.

How many people have taxable income above 1 million dollars per year?

Unrealized capital gains at death, is basically an estate tax. Passing on $10 million to your kids is plenty, and anything over that is taxed but not confiscated. Is there a reason Elon Musk or Mark Zuckerberg's progeny for the next 500 years should be set for life?
