Boy that Crossfield group sure took their friend's talking points and went crazy with the boundary tool! I will be really upset if my younger child ends up at Franklin, we love Carson. The teachers are fantastic and the after school program is amazing. It's also much closer to our home and easier to get to.

One of them has a lot of time on their hands right now to go on there and post over and over…

This is what I don't get. Won't the new school have basically the same population as Carson--except for including Oak Hill (and a lot of them go to Carson for AAP)? Why are these Crossfield parents so determined to stay at Oakton?

Because they are afraid their property values will go down since Oakton is such an "Elite" school. BTW, many of us Crossfield parents would rather our kids go to the new school, because it makes actual sense, for lots of reasons, including the ones you describe, but it appears we are outnumbered, or at least outshouted.

I don't see Melanie Meren agreeing to let Fox Mill go. But, it sounds, from this thread, like a lot of Fox Mill people will opt in.
They really need to drop IB at South Lakes.

Or add AP and have both, like Robinson. But I know I am hoping Fox Mill is moved to the new school and not worry about pupil placing.

All of the comments are up online as well.

The Region 2 comment sheets seem to be another version of Region 1 comments.

Do they ever bother checking whether they are posting the right versions of documents or comments? It's all so sloppy, every single time.

Meren will definitely support Crossfield staying with Oakton. If then, Fox Mill has to go.

What makes you think that? I don't think she will let Fox Mill leave South Lakes. And, if Crossfield stays at Oakton, that is very likely.

Westfield is going to be there soon.
Centreville is a much smaller school--and is overcrowded.

If Kilmer is overcrowded, then, of course it needs to be fixed. But, there are a lot more kids affected in the western area.

Overcrowding is relative to capacity. Schools in western Fairfax were built to be large and a number were expanded. It's a bit rich to now decide - after all the capital resources have flowed to schools like South Lakes, Oakton, and Herndon - that you want smaller schools.

The only one of those schools not at capacity is Herndon. Centerville and Chantilly are over capacity. Westfield is at capacity. The school is needed to relieve the overcrowding at the schools and give a bit of breathing room at the schools on the verge of being over capacity. Kids are going to be shifted throughout the entire region and will still have schools at 95-99% capacity.

So the schools were built to be large, they are large. They were expanded to be larger, and they are now larger. And they are at capacity or over capacity, except for one school. And there is more development happening.

But you are complaining about a new school that will help relieve some of those issues?

Fill Herndon and Westfield to capacity and then come back and whine some more.

We have fixed resources. You have received a disproportionate share of them and then your response is to demand more.

You play this game because you really just want two things: (1) to avoid Westfield and South Lakes; and (2) ensure that it's Langley kids who end up getting moved to Herndon, not yours.

DP. I think you are the one who needs to stop with the whining. The new HS is bought and is being used. You've lost. You aren't going to get your dream of filling Herndon with kids from farther south when there are plenty of Herndon address kids right there 2 miles away who will need somewhere to go next review when Langley is overcrowded.

You're the ones who will lose when the people who foot the lion's share of the bills exit the county. Your property values will decline but the tax rate will keep going up so enjoy.

Everyone in Forestville is not going to move to Loudoun if they get rezoned to Herndon. If they do, so what? Some other UMC families will buy those houses. There is so much demand for housing in this region even the houses zoned to the crappiest of schools are getting snapped up. Your threat is not a threat, at all. Go ahead and sell your house, someone else will buy it and pay the taxes.

DP. Oh boy, you better hope your hypothesis if right, lest you start running social experiments with our kids that results in a diminished FCPS.

Girl, you are delusional.

You thinking I and the families who seek stability are delusional is very telling.

Why are you more entitled to stability than others?

Where is the boundary tool that includes the new high school? I've checked the boundary review website and can't find it.

Part of Crossfield is in Hunter Mill district.

Thanks for the question.

I’m not. Everyone in the county deserves stability in their pyramid. Thats what the vast majority of residents seek as reflected in the tens of thousands of comments from the thousands of Fairfax families who came out to the various meetings who were overwhelmingly against boundary changes.
