And docked pay for days missed. |
clearly, responsive to pressure and reading the tea leaves of changing public opinion. and of course, several weeks too late to ensure full vaccination before school starts. nevertheless, I’ll take it. |
It is a bit strange they are now supporting that given that in many parts of the country kids are back in school already or will be in the next week or so. |
Y’all can’t appreciate anything |
The ATF's position all along has been that mandates should be negotiated. This is not a new position. It is just a clearer restating. |
do we have to go around about this again? the past AFT position was that IF the government wanted to impose a vax mandate, THEN it was a subject of “mandatory bargaining.” that does NOT mean AFT was in favor of vaccine mandates. |
people are confused about Weingarten’s statement, apparently made on a TV show. unclear what AFT’s position actually is about mandatory vax.

Given that you are too stubborn to recognize reality, I guess we do. As I have been saying for 20 pages or so, the AFT clearly favored negotiating mandates. Their first statement made that clear. Today's statement makes it even more clear. I assume that you will continue to deny that even after mandates have been negotiated. |
Only you are confused. As I just said, the AFT supports negotiating mandates. This has been the case all along. A mandate involves more than just shots in arms. What are the ramifications for those who can't or won't vaccinate? Will vaccination status be made public? Will sick leave be allowed for anyone who suffers from vaccine side effects? Will the mandate apply to potential booster shots? Etc. etc. All of that has to be worked out. |
I'm really glad to see the ATF come out with a more unequivocal statement. I hope full approval, at least for the adult vaccines, comes soon because I think it will make it legally more feasible to do this. I really think the holdup on vaccine mandates is legal and not really about teachers unions. My DH is a public sector employee who is also required to work in person, and we'd love to see a vaccine mandate for his division, but it's just not going to happen while the vaccines are in emergency approval.
I will note that his union (not a teachers union) has officially taken no position on vaccination, period, so as not to offend union members who are anti-vax (of which there are probably quite a few, unfortunately). So it's actually a big deal for ATF or any teachers organization to be not only strongly pro-vaccine, but for vaccine mandate, which can be controversial. I think it demonstrates that most teachers, and their unions, know that a fully vaccinated workforce will help protect them as much as it will help protect kids. Take it from someone whose spouse currently works in person with unvaccinated people (and whose work doesn't even have a mask mandate) -- no vaccinated person is excited about the idea of working every day around unvaccinated adults. |
100% this. |
and you are wrong. |
The EUA doesn’t actually prevent mandating vaccination. This has already been litigated. |
Vaccines should have been required a long time ago. Better late than never, though. |
