Correct, I also heard that mls teams were not allowed to play. Same happened with 07s where the white team played.

Why is that? That’s just stupid. Does MLSNext they league think they are too good or afraid if they lose to a non-mls team it will tarnish the “mystery and glamour” of the league?

So why didn't the White team sign up for the state cup then?

I agree. Just like the ecnl, etc. ridiculous. Let the kids play and F the leagues. Yes, MLS Next apparently only permits play for the club in sanctioned competition. Like the old DA. It’s all silly. It’s a great set of teams but leave it to every one of these leagues and associations to screw things up.

The rationale during DA was that the kids shouldn't play too many games - I think they aimed for about 40 a year in total, and that those games needed to be competitive - therefore they mustn't use up valuable game slots on uncompetitive games and only the DA could guarantee games at the appropriate level. I'm not making any comment on whether I agree with that position or not - just stating the rationale as I remember it.

My kids are coached by Spaniards and they think American kids do not play anywhere near the number of games that they should be playing. We play 1/8th of what kids there play in a given year.

That is the exact opposite of the truth. Those Spanish kids are playing against each other a lot in town. They're not traveling hundreds of miles to play another city. Maybe elite pro academies do that, but the majority are playing local games on the weekend just like here.

PP. Well that' why I specifically made no comment on my own position. I tend to agree with you.

I don't think the PP was saying that Spanish kids traveled hundreds of miles. I think he just said they played 8 times as much. My kid's Spanish coach has said much the same to me. Well he said 3x, but the general point was the same.

And no - not Barca. There are other Spanish coaches in this area.

You're talking about kids who literally show up for their first day of u9 and they already have extremely solid technique and completely tearing it up on the field. I've seen it before.

They've never been formally coached but they have so many hours of soccer under their belts that they're doing so many things correctly and they're not even aware of it.

Multiple teams, multiple leagues, just like every other big club. Which team, gender and year?
