Why is ante bellum racist?

DP. Nor is it yours. Nor do you seem aware that HBO pulled Gone with the Wind for it's racism until people complained and they put it back with contextual explainers for how it ignores the horrors of slavery. Which is a fine solution to me, but if that works, why can't I dress like Scarlet O'Hara at a party without endorsing either greed or racism?

Well, you can, but why would you?

Thank you for your permission to exercise my free will. Please provide photos of your entire wardrobe and let me ask you why you want to wear those things. If I don't like your choices, I will call you names.

I have a sexy Hitler/SS officer mini-dress. Should I wear that to a party?

Are you going to go around at the party and explain how the character of Scarlet O'Hara ignores and benefits from the horrors of slavery?

So your answer is we should celebrate exploitation with fancy dress balls?

The answer is that cancelling the balls is not an answer.

I give up. But be aware that when people call you racist, it’s not without merit.

If it's an S and M party, I think that would be a great look. However, I recommend that you do not post a picture of yourself on the internet because other people might not approve and think you are an actual Nazi and not just kinky person.

Be aware that many people think your definition of racism is itself racist.

No. Do you think about the horrors of slavery every time you put on a cotton dress? Or do you ignore thata key reason cotton is such a ubiquitous fabric today is that it once was very profitable when grown by slaves?

Look at this exchange. I expressed the opinion that cancelling fancy dress balls has no measurable impact on the exploitation of one group by another. That's all I did. But holding that opinion was all that was needed to consider me racist, even though the balls don't affect, except emotionally. Many people think that's racist because it is telling other races how they must think and how they must behave.

There is more than one definition. The definition is disputed these days. You can go out and verify that for yourself. I don't think I'm racist or ignorant. You can call me those names all you want, but don't be surprised if someone calls you those names right back.

So you call people racist because.....they called you racist? Not because you actually think they are racist? Is that the logic here?

RWNJs have been doing this for years.

No, I only call them racist when I think they are racist. PP should not be surprised that there may be a lot of people who think she is the racist.

And LWNJs have decided that everyone is racist except them, so what's the difference really?

But holding that opinion was all that was needed to consider me racist, even though the balls don't affect, except emotionally. Many people think that's racist because it is telling other races how they must think and how they must behave.

And people have told you that celebrating the exploitation has a very measurable impact in that it tells the marginalized group, “I understand what you’re saying and why that’s hurtful.” It says you’re listening. And I think if it’s affecting our fellow citizens emotionally, then maybe you can just have a different theme ball instead of continuing to cause hurt. Do you seriously not see why that makes you racist? That people have for 25 pages explained patiently why it’s hurtful and unnecessary and you’re here pretending to have common sense.

Acting dckish isn’t illegal, true, but if someone tells you repeatedly that you’re acting dckish and you keep doing it, maybe you’re just a dck.
