Covid Relief Bill thread

The GOP isn't supporting the $2000, so he should just sign it and retire to Florida.

I'm confused. Can't he sign this, and then demand $1400 Bill by itself?

He could.

That would be the smart thing to do - not throwing people off unemployment in 24 hours, not shutting down the government in 72 hours, not ensuring evictions protections expire in 5 days, not halting vaccine dispersals and transportation in the same time.

He just doesn't seem to care. His excuses make no sense. If he wanted $2,000 - give the $600 down payment now and whip Congress starting next week to get the extra amount. But he wants pain.

No, the minute he signs the combined bill he loses his leverage. The $2,000 has to happen while he still has the leverage and able to take advantage of the fact that the spending bill and the relief bill are combined this time (which almost never happens) due to ineptitude and immorality of our politicians in both parties.

He had a lot more leverage 6 months ago but funny how he neglected to
mention this is what he wanted. Talk about inept and immoral.

So, now Trump likes socialism?

Congress has a veto proof majority on this bill. Unless democrats play hard ball (they wont) there is no leverage for $2000.

This exposes Republicans in congress for what they are and it's good to see.

if he vetos it. If he does nothing, there isn’t time to vote on the veto. The bill just dies.

It’s not going to happen. Just a big waste of energy.

He has no leverage. He’s a toddler throwing a tantrum for lack of support over his election loss.

He knows and the entire Republican Party knows that Mitch McConnell will never bring that $2,000 bill up for a vote in the Senate. Trump is killing people because he can and he hates that the American public ‘betrayed’ him.

I hate him. I've never ever hated a President before.

If this bill doesn't get signed, there will be millions of homeless Americans within a matter of months.

Try weeks. Evictions protections expire on Jan. 1st and many landlords have pre-filed evictions proceedings in states like Louisiana where you only have to give 5 days notice to have the tenant out.

35% of Americans could lose their homes in the next couple of months, per Census data:

As others have probably said before me:

Trump is extremely resentful that he lost the election. He has been made of no account. He may not even be aware of it, but he's trying to make himself the center of attention again, even if it's just to make people suffer.

I agree. It tells me that Republicans are not going to pass a bill that gives millions and millions to other countries for silly programs and very little to the American people. Take out the pork and you’d probably get a deal.

The ‘pork’ was requested by the Republican White House and Republican Senators. The millions for the Pakistani gender studies program? That’s Lindsey Graham’s pet project!

Trump requested this, allowed it to go through after weeks of negotiating and only now drops in after the deal has been completed. Sheer idiocy
