by orange you mean "any team that isn't highest team in the boys age groups" |
So your insinuation is that the club is not only cheating by sending players down in age, but dropping them to the lower level teams at that illegal age to book a win at a level you’re saying they don’t care about. Great contribution moron, you win the internets tonight. |
You're smarter than me. I couldn't make any sense of his comment at all. |
You all are confusing this entire thread. Pp#2 was confusing "overage"for "orange" (they were saying 'over age' FWIW) Pp#1 was saying for example a u10 who normally plays up for u11, asked to come play some u10 games or tournaments. So still playing on age. |
There is nothing wrong with that. |

Nothing violating age-restriction rules...
However, if said player is getting substantial minutes with his own team, and then comes to take minutes from a player on a lower-level team simply for the sake of winning, it's kind of lame. Like, really lame. |
+1 |
that was a short stay. Are they just hiring people from other clubs for the partial teams they bring with them and then cutting them loose? |
| From personal experience I've seen SYC place Blue players in Orange matches for optics and potential W. Takes away playing time from the Orange players. Very lame. Never saw an Orange move up to play with Blue. I guess playing time/development is only talk. Leaving. |
It's good to know your singular perspective is somehow representative of how the entire organization operates. It's amazing how you can monitor more than 30 teams, spread out across eight different age groups on both the boys and girls side and suggest that player development is unimportant. |
This is what happened when we played the orange team. We saw the other team members from blue come over and join them. |
Current SYC parent - this might not be the nefarious thing it’s being made out to be. For one, remember it’s covid time. Players miss games all the time from all clubs. They get back filled by guest players inside the org. At our younger ages, syc keeps their rosters smaller than it seems like other clubs. Our 7v7 is frequently rosters of 10, our 9v9 around 12, not sure older ages since my oldest is still 9v9. So there’s player movement when we need subs as people are out of town or otherwise missing. Frequently, those are orange players coming up to play a game with blue, then go back to play their normal game with their team as well. Sometimes it means a player from a high team subs in on a lower team because it’s not just top team players who get hurt or miss games! So blue players have played an orange game, or a player an age down comes up, or a white teamer plays orange or orange down to white. Smaller rosters is great for playing time, but it’s tough when folks are missing, it doesn’t take more than 1 or 2 being gone to throw things into a tizzy. I’ve seen each of those scenarios described in my own kids groups for a couple years now. We also frequently have the better players from team just below joining an extra practice session. This isn’t just 1 coach doing that, it’s across all the younger ages & boys/girls. The club might not be perfect, but it’s not fair to say they don’t create development opportunities for players either, or that’s they’re trying to game the system. |
Sure. There were about 14 kids on the other side in uniform. But keep telling yourself that the roster was too small! |

I think SYC is a good club. Coaches and TD are responsive to you. Parents are mostly great. I have kids in multiple clubs and lots of people complain about different issues all over but at the end of the day, if your kid is happy and progressing, what's the issue? I would recommend SYC especially for U12 and over. I would also recommend smaller clubs for younger players and hope parents don't stress at that level because younger kids have A LOT of growing and changes and you can gauge almost nothing regarding their future play compared to other kids (unless you just have super athletic kids). Also, most of the complaining on these boards tends to be from 2nd team parents - at EVERY club. So take it with a grain of salt and watch to see if your kid enjoys his/her team and is progressing. Just my 2 cents.

There are actual better nearby options with good coaching. |
