So is MOCO just never opening?

I mean, I would imagine Hogan could technically override Elrich. The question is if he wants to pull that trigger, but I think it’s possible.

Sometimes I wonder if he is trying to let Elrich embarrass himself . . . . or he doesn't want to pull the trigger on the risk.

The interesting thing is Hogan quoted "Bethesda Row" opening up the streets for restaurants for outdoor seating. He quoted the positivity rates in moco on testing. (which was just published today - you could calculate the state rates for weeks). Hogan left it very murky. . . . .

He made it quite clear he thinks MoCo should open.

He's the governor. He can do it. Telling the counties that they're allowed to decide for themselves, and then criticizing their decisions, is grandstanding. Back to business as usual for Hogan, I guess.

Not joking. Marc Elrich is a literal Communist. He regularly visits Cuba for fun. There's actual video proof on Youtube of him praising Cuba and the Castro regime.

This is true, if by "literal Communist," you mean "not a Communist at all."

Oh, he guesses? I thought we were coordinating with NoVA and DC.

The business owners in this county—and all of us—deserve better than this floundering idiot.

He's coming off as bad as Trump in terms of poor leadership. He's the county executive, so plan and execute. He shouldn't be "guessing". Doesn't he think that businesses might want some time to plan ahead and get in touch with employees to call them back into work? It's ridiculous.

You, as a Democrat, I had the same thought that he reminds me of Trump at the opposite end of the political spectrum. Terrible leadership. He's either a moron or playing politics with Hogan.

Which actions of Elrich remind you of Trump? Golfing? Getting the police to investigate his political opponents? Shaking down other elected officials? Inciting bigotry and violence? Praising Nazis? Advising people to take dangerous medications? Getting his lawyer to pay off porn actors? Stiffing small businesspeople who did work for him? Naming his children and children-in-law to high-level positions in the county? Operating Montgomery County like a banana republic? Do tell.

They’re kind of making up their own metrics,” Hogan said.
As testing increases, Hogan said there will be more additional cases, and that is not what they look at.
“We look as the hospitalizations, the ICU and these positivity rates, all of which are trending in the right direction, including Prince George’s, Montgomery County,” Hogan said. “They’re doing great. They started out in a really bad place, but they’re all following the same trend of downward cut in half. So I think they ought to move forward.”

Montgomery county has not set date yet. Local leader said they wanted “magic words” from Gov. Hogan on why they would reopen. Anything to say to residents on behalf of reopening?

Gov. Hogan: No magic words but we’ve worked well with local leaders. Our plan called for flexibility in working with various counties. County leaders begged for and requested that flexibility to make decisions on behalf of their counties. We gave it to them. Not criticizing any county leaders. Prince George’s and Montgomery County leaders are facing a challenge. Hoping the County Executive makes the best decision for the county but not sure if he’s aware of the latest information. Seems to be some confusion. Some local leaders are making up their own metrics rather than following state plan. Gov. Hogan thinks that they should move forward. County Executive Alsobrooks made the decision to open June 1st, Baltimore City is taking steps towards Phase 1, and Montgomery is the only who hasn’t set a date and they need to

Apparently not, OP. At this point Elrich is going to keep MoCo closed until everyone who can has fled the county, including businesses, and the nursing home residents will be left to fend for themselves.

Maryland is NOT going to phase 2 today, he opened a few more things and said we CAN go to phase two (which is schools/daycares) if we keep numbers down.

Inability to govern. Unfortunately, for us, a trait they share.

Gov. Hogan is very popular, non partisan, and willing to work with Democrats. He has handled this crisis calmly and with a reasonable plan. Elrich is clearly playing politics with reopening. I'm not sure how he's going to wiggle his way out of the bizarre and data dashboard and non transparent decision making process without looking like a fool. There's no way we're meeting all of those metrics anytime soon so he's really boxed himself into a corner. I'm a Democrat and the only Republican I've ever voted for is Hogan.

Yeah, but he’s opening up a ton of stuff, including restaurants, camps, pools, etc.

Don’t waste your breath. This is just the same old bothsidesist lying from conservatives. Feel bad for them— they have to lie. Their whole party is built on lying. Everyone hates their ideas when the “ideas” are presented plainly. That’s why they have to lie about them.
