| Bernie Sanders called Baltimore a 3rd world country in 2015. I always knew he was a racist too. |
No way is Bernie a racist, but it does highlight the difference in the media's reactions. |
In the most recent general assembly, members of the Maryland teachers union strongly supported an $800 million appropriation for schools, particularly community schools in poverty areas. Effort is being made. Of course, the general assembly also had to approve an armed police force for Johns Hopkins. That says something about safety in Baltimore and the efficacy of its police force. |
Nope, he is racist based on this thread. If Trump is racist for saying Baltimore is a dump, Bernie is too. Fair is fair |
Trump supporter here. I agree that what he said was vile and racist. What is your opinion of Baltimore? Hi |
| So for those defending Trump, what do you tell your kids when they ask you why you are supporting a racist? |
I've never lived in Baltimore. I've enjoyed spending time there. I grew up in Rhode Island where corrupt politicians are nothing new, so Baltimore's corruption doesn't shock me. I know a lot of people who live in Baltimore and feel fiercely protective of the place. I don't imagine Trump's disgraceful comments will endear him to many who live there - but of course they weren't aimed at anyone who lives there; they were aimed at his lily white, uneducated base. I'm sorry to hear you support Trump. |
I'm not defending Trump, but I am truly sick of almost everything he does being described as racist, misogynistic, etc regardless of what he says or does. Those words lose their power and meaning when overused. |
| My kids are smart enough to read Cummings statements and background to understand who the true racist is in this fight, and they despise driving through Baltimore because it resembles a 3rd world country |
What "base" keeps Baltimore schools virtually segregated? |
| We have 24 pages of "Trump is a racist" because he said Baltimore sucks. Now people know Bernie said it, queue the 4 pages of people telling us what Bernie "really meant" |
Systemic inequality. Perhaps you've heard of it. |
DP here. Baltimore is a real mensch of a city. And a complex one. It has a ton of problems stemming in large part from more than a century of racial animosity and segregation (do some reading to see how African Americans were quarantined in specific areas) - it is in fact the northernmost southern city and that is reflected in the terrible treatment its African American residents faced for the entire 20th century and into the 21st. Freddie Gray. It also has Johns Hopkins University and medical center. Amazing museums (have you ever visited the Visionary Art Museum?). A wonderful waterfront. A lot of sports spirit. Fascinating history (have you been to Fort McHenry?). John Waters. It has a lot of heart. Please read this: https://www.smithsonianmag.com/travel/how-baltimore-quietly-became-coolest-city-east-coast-180964241/ How often do you go to Baltimore? |
If you didn't notice, Bernie isn't polling very well with black people - and it's because he is largely seen as totally out of touch. It's part of what (I expect) will sink his campaign. |
Please give us Bernie's actual quote. Thanks. |
