Even if this actually happened, is it relevant to the discussion of racism at Whitman?

When you sit with your 8 year old who is crying while they try to erase racist comments scrawled over the stories they've written, get back to me. Til then, pound sand.

I'll grant you it's a heartbreaking story but still not relevant to the racism present at Whitman.

+1 I would also posit that the parent of the victim may not be in the best place to know what punishment was doled out to the perpetrator, nor should they be.

I still find this hard to believe. Pyle is such a great school.

My son goes to a well regarded MCPS HS. My son told me that one black student addressed another black student as the "N" word in school.

A lot of these problems stem from the fact that many of these W feeders are segregated.

I also believe if these schools were better integrated there would be greater empathy for others.

Talk to kids there. It’s a HARD place to be black or gay or whatever, and it’s so big and the administration is pretty invisible. Kids can get away with a lot.

The schools are all Asian and Indian. Need more whites and blacks.

Yes there is no W high school with more than single digits of AA’s. This in a county that is closer to a quarter AA. Of course, that is the whole reason white peoples move to W schools. “For the schools” = “for the test scores” = “as few AA’s as possible.” It may not be their intention (or in some cases it may be) but this is the effect.

We do need some wealthy URMs to buy homes in Bethesda. Really disappointed that Blacks and Hispanics do not want to buy in Bethesda.

"Black", "Negro", "People of Color", "Colored people" and "African Americans" - I have been told not to use these terms at one time or another. And yet I see this being used all the time everywhere. We are Asian immigrants and it is all very confusing.

What is the correct word/phrase?

Nope. That is black on black racism.
