If you don't live in Dranesville, it's not your decision to make. |
I can lobby if I want to do so. I live in Fairfax County. Janie's Kindergarten supporter endorsed her. Don't think she lived in Dranesville. |
| I think shaista lived in fairfax station area. I was thankful for the FDK people in general, but what happened with the contract does seem quite shady. |
The fact that she was endorsing her campaign while taking money from the campaign is also a little shady. Agree though. Did need all day k |

Article in the Post today indicates Janie will run again.
My prediction: Epstein will run again and win this time. Janie will win heavily in Herndon HS area as before. Louise will win heavily in Langley HS area as before. Change will be that McLean HS area and Pimmit Hills, which gave Janie margin of victory before, will tip towards Epstein. Why? Failure to address large class sizes in McLean schools, and her role in pushing Pimmit Hills kids out of Haycock AAP have reduced the number of her supporters in both areas. Once on Board, Epstein will align with McLaughlin, Reed, and Schultz. If Sully votes in a more conservative candidate to replace Smith, and at least one of the at-large seats flips (Velkoff is the most vulnerable), the group will control half the Board. |
We need to get the Dems to endorse Greg Brandon. |
Velkoff could run for Smith's seat, which she is vacating, and the Democrats could endorse Brandon for at-large. |
No, I am selfish, I want Brandon for Dranesville. I would walk the neighborhood for him. I would donate to his campaign. I will not vote for Strauss. Ever. |
If it is Strauss against Epstein, Epstein will once again lose. Sorry to those on these boards who clearly don't like Strauss, but there is true hatred toward Epstein in Dranesville, and it has only gotten stronger during the last 4 years as she has ensconced herself within the hard right-wingers on the MCA -- which is what started off this thread to begin with. Everywhere this woman goes, she makes enemies. She is an idealogue who is only out for herself, not interested in really "representing" any interests other than her own. And this thing about Strauss paying an FDK supporter? That story is a plant by Epstein. If you read it and understand the basic passage of time, there was nothing untoward going on there. The FDK person worked hard to get FDK, and had Strauss' support in doing so. Then, afterward, she worked on Strauss' campaign, and was paid for it because she's obviously a valuable advisor. Typical Epstein: Anybody who doesn't support/agree with you gets smeared in the press. It took Epstein years and years to get Fairgrade done (and it was of dubious, dubious value). It took the FDK group a single year. Obviously Epstein hates these people. Plus, you know, they actually were improving FCPS which takes (gasp!) tax money to do, sometimes. Epstein had nothing to do with FDK, as she has nothing to do with actual innovation in the schools. She's just obsessed with shrinking the budget. If that is your only concern about our schools, hey, vote for her. Just expect the quality of FCPS to keep falling and falling... Dranesville may not have perfect options, but they're not fooled by Epstein. |
As someone who was part of the FDK push, I never even saw any documents from Strauss supporting the effort. She didn't push against it, but I don't remember any talks where she came across as being a staunch supporter. The parents behind that effort really did all the work and banked on the fact that it was a reelection year to get it approved. They also had the help of the parents the year before who pushed to keep full day K in other schools so in reality it was a 2 year effort. I believe Epstein was a big part of fair grade since I remember seeing her name on many documents and I think it's done a lot to help VA students with transfers and college acceptances. I also only remember fairgrade being about a two year effort as well. It didn't need the same amount of supporters since there was no money involved in the change. I don't remember if it was approved during an election year or not. I don't live in Drainesville, but watch the news around the county and do not remember anything remarkable Strauss has done these past 5 years for her constituents in Herndon or in McLean. |
We would have better options than Strauss or Epstein if the Democrats would get their head out of the sand. Why is it so hard to say, you had your time dear, it is now tike for the net generation? She hasn't had children in FCPS in DECADES. Her grandchildren are aging or have aged out. New blood PLEASE! Give a great big hurrah party and show her the door! |
| I do think the schools in Mclean are very well run, so if she has something to do with that, I'm all for supporting her. It is an important region having some of the most important schools for fueling Tyson's growth, keeping up the reputation of several large STEM oriented schools in western Fairfax, and dealing with some of the most impoverished schools in the county. |
A plant? It is a fact. I do not live in Dranesville and do not know Epstein. However, I have followed SB for a long time. Never heard Strauss push for all day K--or Smith, either. |
This is actually the most overty partisan post I've seen on the thread. You will recall that, even with some flaws as a candidate and an over-the-top campaign manager, Epstein only lost by less than four percentage points the last time she challenged Strauss. With Strauss having failed to deliver on what she claimed would be her top priority over the past four years (reducing class sizes in Dranesville), many people will switch their votes in Epstein's favor unless Dranesville can identify another Democrat besides Janie to challenge her. |
Nonsense. We're in Dranesville and are part of the anybody but Strauss block. There are lot's of us. |
