Fairfax County: McLean Citizens Association demands smaller class sizes

If you know anyone in Sully, be sure and tell them to vote against Kathy Smith for Supervisor. She's been one of the worst. Can't imagine her handling Bos.

Strauss also got lucky when she connected with the full day K people. LUCKY because she had years to do something about it. Had she not been running, she would have voted against it.

Yes--and then she paid the all day K supporter!

If that is true, you need to get educated about who you're voting for, and this thread ought to scare you away from voting for Epstein... This is a person who (as someone else pointed out) has always supported LOWER funding for our schools in order to please her Tea Party friends who don't like taxes (Who likes taxes anyway? But I digress...) Then because she can't say she's going to raise taxes, she will promise she'll deliver stuff for her community by taking it from those who, in her view, have too much -- e.g. those in the poorer parts of the County.

If you are really a bleeding-heart liberal, you should not vote for this person. Be frustrated with Straus, but this is really making a deal with the devil. And she won't be able to deliver any better than anybody else, especially given her apparently abrasive politics of personal destruction. Read any number of posts from the last election and you'll see people talk about this...

Hmmm...seems a similar strain of thought always pops up on the IB threads, too. Complaining about the costs and the fact that it is in so many of the poorer high schools.

Yeah, it would be awful if more of the kids at those schools were interested in AP than IB and we managed to save some money, too.

I'm in Sully. Who do you recommend?

Can you elaborate?

Agree! I thought I supported Louise Epstein until I dug deeper and realized what she actually stood for. I despise Janie Strauss but I'd probably vote for her if that was the choice.

Vote for me, my opponent is a crappier candidate than I am.

Do you know how much? Do you mean that mom who pushed for all day K?

Yes. I'll try to find it. It was some kind of expense that came from Janie's election campaign.

Mclean has a lot of smart people. They should be able to come up with someone who can beat Strauss easily.

You could elect a BOS member who actually tries to enforce the housing codes, has said "no" to developers who keep pushing to increase density in areas that aren't convenient to Metro, and insists that new schools have adequate playground space and aren't located in abandoned office buildings when there were several better alternatives.

But, no, you kept electing Penny Gross, and then you think we should smile and keep quiet when FCPS puts twice as many kids in our classes as yours? Sorry, but our class sizes are too big, and we'll advocate aggressively to bring them down. See you at the polls, or in the court house, whichever comes first.

So now McLean wants to blame Mason district for not ejecting the poor? Where do you suppose those people are going to go when you "enforce the code"? (BTW last I heard code enforcement was by the County, not the Supervisor, so your supervisor would have to vote for it too)
You know there are already homeless people in Fairfax, don't you?

You are such lovely, lovely people in McLean.

Actually we are very nice people but most of your posters are very ignorant. Not ONE of you PPs have noted the fact that a position paper from the McLean Citizens Association means absolutely nothing. Do you even know WHAT the McLean Citizens Association is? Did you realize that there is no official town, no real chamber, no real mayor in McLean? It is an unincorporated area. The MCA serves ONLY as an unofficial town council for the residents of the McLean area which has no governmental structure of its own. All it is is a forum where residents can meet only three times a year to talk. There are only six officers, 14 at large members and 20 members representing neighborhoods. It has zero political clout. It meets only 3 times a year and costs $15 to join. I have never joined. I don't know anyone else who has joined. No one attends the meetings. It's considered a maverick group. So for all these pages you posters are assuming that real McLean people are really making this fuss. I've never heard about it before reading this post and am smart enough to know that anything coming out of MCA means zero.

Meanwhile I am paying over $18,000 a year in property taxes x 25 years and have sent only one child through the local public high school. As soon as we finish with state universities we are moving out because the property taxes are killing us.

Please read. You are all spending way too much time fighting over something that means very little.

Reference money spent by Strauss on her campaign:

There is a reference here to the money paid. I can not find the details on the VPAP site now. They were there in 2011. Strauss paid the woman who ran the All day K campaign.

And Lorenze claimed to have provided tens of thousands of dollars of services in kind to her largely unsuccessful slate of candidates. Are you trying to relive the 2011 campaign that Epstein already lost?

Nope. Don't live in Dranesville. However, I watched how Strauss behaved during a boundary issue. She needs to get off the board. We need lots of new blood.
