Kubik - no chance. He's not a head coach, he's 56 and doesn't want to be a head coach anymore.
No chance on Mitchell. His brother tried at DM and he has a club to run along with all the camps and tournaments they have their fingers in.
McGettigan isn't a good coach without Kubik.
No academy school is going to switch without a huge compensation package and that woud wreck the payscale at GP. They don't operate in the black right now. Van Dyke is too aware for this to happen.
Ridiculously out of touch move by GP to allow this to happen without a plan in place.

I’m not sure applying your “logic” to this is as appropriate as you think it is. I know both Giblin and Kubic and when it comes to Prep (for Kubic) and lacrosse (for Giblin) “logical” doesn’t immediately spring to mind as a descriptor. I think either one is a possibility and can’t be dismissed by a wave of the hand. I said “possibility” not “probability”.

For Prep a winning lacrosse program is a “nice to have” not a dire necessity. This isn’t Baltimore. The decision they make will reflect this. So while “blue sky” predictions might be entertaining they aren’t tethered to reality or to Prep’s history of hiring and the rare firing of coaches.

When Prep chose to accept Giblin’s resignation there wasn’t any plan in place. Scott Urick kind of fell into their lap. He was local, available and associated with a Jesuit college.

Those rooting for a “bombshell” choice are going to be disappointed. Vandyke and Glennon want the complaining to stop and Paro wants someone who will accept a “second place” in the athletic hierarchy behind football. And unlike at SJC there aren’t any big bucks alumni that will finance a established, big-name coach.

Not too sure about your knowledge. The obvious misspelling of Kubik; lacrosse is definitely a "must-have" given the demographics of their football and basketball team and the need for full pay students; Giblin didn't resign, he was dressed down and fired for his final straw bar fight; Urick wasn't the first coach after Giblin; and Bidwill has more money than Plank - way more, and he tossed over $25 mil for the stadium; and not many realize GP and the other high end schools in the area run in the red. The only reason they can operate is by way of donations.

Paro can't stand the new dynamics of recruiting grade school families for athletics. GP has increasingly swung back to giving football and baseball scholarships after caving and going back to giving basketball scholarships. At his age, he just wants to be left alone about any sport, including football. He and many in charge at GP can't seem to figure out the new dynamics of getting into a good university beyond getting good grades.

You are right about the spelling of Kubik’s name. But you are wrong about Giblin not resigning. The reason GP accepted his resignation was the incident at Caddy’s. That and the significant number of people on campus that Giblin had rubbed the wrong way over the years. He had resigned or threatened to resign in previous years and they talked him out of it or acquiesced to some of his “asks”. This was another attempt by him to get what he thought he needed to stay competitive. But this time they just accept his resignation.

Prep will continue to field a team and they will seek to be competitive. But they just won the IAC in 2021 and 2023 and they finished in 3rd this year at 3-2. If they lose a few full-pay kinds to Gonzaga of SJC it won’t move the needle all that much. I’ll stick with it’s a nice thing for them to have not a “must have”. And their choice of new HC will demonstrate that.

Giblin literally was brought into the office to explain the incident. He blurted out "then I'll resign" in his Giblin way. The President quickly said "resignation accepted" and he was shown the door. It was a trap the president knew he would fall into. He got a month's pay and was shown the exit.

GP has already lost kids to GZ and SJC, alumni D1 players have chosen other schools and Mater Dei just had 2 lax kids choose Landon. The needle moved a lot and it was time for Urick to go bc he was inept at basic social skills. Now GP has to worry about players transferring. Don't think they aren't offering the WI and GA kids a nice discount.

Kubik is nothing if not unpredictable. If you suggested even a few years ago that at some point he would be coaching and then teaching at hated-rival Landon, I would put the chance of that happening at 0.0%.

Then you don't know Kubik.

Will Prep keep the doctor coach on staff?

Kubik is now full time at Landon.

He parted ways from MD in June.

Kinda weird, a GP alum is now teaching / coaching at arch-rival Landon.

The guy is revered by countless MD alums whom went to GZ or SJC and obviously GP alums.

Prep Headmaster should find away to bring him home.

Ha. Maybe he will come home to Prep when the headmaster is fired. They hate each other.

Landon has a number of ex GP connections.

For people who know Mike Kubik there is no question that he is an outstanding educator in the classroom and on the field and Prep would be lucky to have him back. He's quirky but he cares about the kids, he does things the right way and he's an absolute lacrosse savant.

He built a successful wrestling program at Prep his first go round at the school (dispelling the suggestion that he's not a Head Coach) and there's no question he could do it again with lacrosse.

The most recent Landon lacrosse teams would not have seen the success they did without Kubik leading the offense. That's not a knock on McGettigan or the rest of the staff - it's just commentary on what Kubik brought.

Ask the last 2 graduating classes at Landon - Kubik is 100% invested in the kids, their development and them doing it the right way. He is old school in the best sense of the word while still understanding how things work in today's world.

Some parents have/may bristle at the fact that he detests "me" ball and places the success of the team over the success of the individual - that should be embraced by any school.

Prep has had a good amount of talent the last few years, but they've been playing "club ball" with a complete lack of an offensive scheme from the GP's coaches - that's why there's been a decline after they lost the incredible talent of the '23 class. Kubik immediately solves that issue (plus he provides Prep with a great teacher).

Kubik knows the area, he has the Mater Dei ties (not the end all be all, but it doesn't hurt to have that pipeline) and the guy is passionate about lacrosse and continues to take the opportunity to learn from others - something a lot of people with his experience don't do.

There are certainly other candidates out there who could be successful in the position, but why would Prep pass up the opportunity to bring an alum back into the fold given all of the above, plus it gets someone in place immediately and it places their biggest rival, Landon, at a disadvantage moving forward. It's a no-brainer and it will be interesting to see if Prep gets it right or manages to bungle what should be an easy call.

That’s weird.

Must have been the influence of the HOS who went to Gonzaga.

Only 35 years as teacher, coach and friend.

And in the important area of bringing in Assistant Coaches, he would have a huge advantage over just about anyone else they could hire. There are literally dozens of Prep Lac alums who know him and trust him. And all of these guys would be accepted as “family” by everyone on campus.8

Whatever and doubt it. Then you know he's not interested in being a head coach or in returning to GP this spring or ever as he just took a full-time gig at Landon.

Preps program is in trouble

Prep lacrosse is on the upswing. And they better not keep Coach Dr Q Collar. He is not a good look for them.

give me one reason why you the program is on the upswing.

The Hoyas just had their worst season in the past 25 years... its a fact.

They don't even have a head coach named and its August.

Longer term the fundamentals are in place for GP lax to be as good as it has been over the past 25+ years.

Could there be a short-term dip in performance as a new coach and coaching staff settles in? Sure. It depends on who they put in there.

Bringing someone in with no connection to the school or the alumni who then must recruit assistants could easily result in a protracted “down” period.
