Giblin is 62. Again, no chance. Kubik - no chance. He's not a head coach, he's 56 and doesn't want to be a head coach anymore. No chance on Mitchell. His brother tried at DM and he has a club to run along with all the camps and tournaments they have their fingers in. McGettigan isn't a good coach without Kubik. No academy school is going to switch without a huge compensation package and that woud wreck the payscale at GP. They don't operate in the black right now. Van Dyke is too aware for this to happen. Ridiculously out of touch move by GP to allow this to happen without a plan in place.
I’m not sure applying your “logic” to this is as appropriate as you think it is. I know both Giblin and Kubic and when it comes to Prep (for Kubic) and lacrosse (for Giblin) “logical” doesn’t immediately spring to mind as a descriptor. I think either one is a possibility and can’t be dismissed by a wave of the hand. I said “possibility” not “probability”. For Prep a winning lacrosse program is a “nice to have” not a dire necessity. This isn’t Baltimore. The decision they make will reflect this. So while “blue sky” predictions might be entertaining they aren’t tethered to reality or to Prep’s history of hiring and the rare firing of coaches. When Prep chose to accept Giblin’s resignation there wasn’t any plan in place. Scott Urick kind of fell into their lap. He was local, available and associated with a Jesuit college. Those rooting for a “bombshell” choice are going to be disappointed. Vandyke and Glennon want the complaining to stop and Paro wants someone who will accept a “second place” in the athletic hierarchy behind football. And unlike at SJC there aren’t any big bucks alumni that will finance an established, big-name coach.
Kubik is nothing if not unpredictable. If you suggested even a few years ago that at some point he would be coaching and then teaching at hated-rival Landon, I would put the chance of that happening at 0.0%.
Then you don't know Kubik.
Only 35 years as teacher, coach and friend.
Whatever and doubt it. Then you know he's not interested in being a head coach or in returning to GP this spring or ever as he just took a full-time gig at Landon.
