Can someone please explain to me, if the cost at top publics is 80-90K a year, that’s 300-400K overall and that’s just undergrad, yet the acceptance rate is like 10%, who are all these people coming applying who can afford this kind of tuition?
UCLA, Berkley, Univ MI & UVA attract high stat/income families just like the private schools do. This isn't new.
Me! And we have an excellent in state flagship. Everyone has a different philosophy about education - mine came from my parents. We pay for the best college the kid can get into that he also wants to go to. It is an incentive to work hard in high school and lets them explore a new part of the country. College is more than 4 years of academics - it is meeting new people, reinventing yourself and pushing yourself out of your comfort zone. We are fortunate to do this - but we have made prioritizing saving for education a huge part of our marriage, since the kids were born. We are lucky that the market has come together to do what we wanted - let the kids pick the best school they can get into if that's what they want. And, yes, UVA was on our list. So is Michigan and Berkeley and UCLA. Some of you people in Virginia do not know how well esteemed Virginia is.
UVA has a 16% OOS yield rate.
