Hayfield Football Coach Fired

Washington and Liberty and Madison at blowing teams out in a similar fashion. Guess it’s ok for some schools to do it.

WnL doesn’t blow out teams by humongous margins. Never has in its 100 years of existence, even the years they won states. But I digress. Let’s wish all these successful football programs the best, including Hayfield, as they work their way through the tough end-of-season district play that determines playoff seedings. All these amazing student athletes deserve our support.

The NMST power rankings for week 8 should be out soon. Hayfield will anchor the number one spot, with local teams Madison, WnL, and Battlefied rounding out the top five.

Hayfield plays national superpower Riverdale Baptist next Friday. All the best to these hard working student athletes for what looks to be a fun, challenging game. Probably next week’s game of the week.

When they are blowing away a school like South County 63 to zero, something is definitely amiss.

SoCo traditionally beats Hayfield by a wide margin.

Last year, SoCo beat Hayfield 53 to 9.

That is a tremendous point swing between the two schools, statistically impossible unless something untowardly happened.

Last year, Madison beat SoCo by only 1 touchdown, 21-14.

Based on how Hayfield trounced SoCo, Hayfield is going to completely embarrass Madison when they meet in the playoffs.

Madison is going to lose by 50 to 60 points, and will probably not score once.

Ok so So County ran the score up on Hayfield last year. 63-0 was payback. The Chantilly coach was mouthing off before last weeks game before Chantilly got what they got. What goes around comes back sometimes.

If you believe that you’re a fool. Everyone knows the program is corrupt. They are Freedom High School 2.0 and it’s not right. Freedom was scoring 50 points by halftime last year in the playoffs. Overtons ego and willingness to job the system are pathetic. He needs to move to a private school where his competition recruits heavily unlike the majority of public schools. His reputation outside Hayfield is not good.

Coaches with bad coaching reputations don’t get the Coach of the Year award. Of course there are people that don’t want to see him win out of jealousy or because he is Black, but that comes with the territory.

Why are you willing to excuse cheating because he's Black? I think its racist to have lower moral standards for a coach just because he's Black.

The powers that be, have already said publicly that the man wasn’t cheating. Why do you keep trying to change the narrative away from the facts.

To the white supremacist, it’s always cheating when someone Black wins.

Nonsense. They said the players they checked had paperwork that seened correct.

We all know cheating when we see it. 30+ kids transferring into a public school in one year to play a sport is cheating.

I wonder how he would do coaching an "organic" team? He never has coached a real public school team. He seems afraid to do so.

He would fail. He seems incapable of coaching without cheating and stacking his teams.

What's going on with all those transfer players who VHSL kicked off the Hayfield roster the day before the first game? I believe it was around 9 total. Did they transfer back to their old schools or are they just not playing football this year?

Nothing like the soft bigotry of low expectations. How dare we expect a coach who happens to be Black to have integrity?

The football coach doesn’t control who moves into a schools zoning area. A coach doesn’t control who the administration enrolls into a school. It’s not even his responsibility to ensure the kids who come out for the team are eligible. Beyond all that, the athletic administration determined who was eligible to play before any games were played and it seems Hayfield is in compliance with the rules. Even if some kids who are not eligible tried to play, they were not allowed. It’s kind of like, "no harm no foul”.

The coach only coaches. And good players follow good coaches because they know that can provide them the best opportunity to get to the next level. That isn’t something new. Overton isn’t the first coach to attract good players.

Most of them have been cleared by now. Only a couple left that aren't playing yet.

This is BS. Hayfield embarked on a coordinated plan to give Overton a place to land after he was booted from Prince William and build a football powerhouse. The principal, much of the staff, and the coach were all in on the plan, and did what they could to make it happen and make those who had misgivings feel unwelcome at Hayfield. It's more like a hostile takeover than a typical team.

You can keep arguing that laws weren't violated, but that's almost besides the point. Hayfield has still embarrassed itself, its opponents, and most of all FCPS leadership, which revealed itself too feckless to step in and discourage what has happened there. Michelle Reid is a weakling and a failure.

2 are not playing this year, the rest are allowed to play now.

Funny thing is I bet a good number of the rival football parents commenting here will be at the Hayfield / Riverdale Baptist game. I wouldn’t be surprised if the Washington Post decides to cover it, especially since it’s a rare public school / private school matchup.

That will probably be the "game of the week”. Hayfield is underrated in all the rankings.
