The player who most caught my eye was Madison FOGO--winning 19 of 20 draws is impressive, no matter who the competition is. Riverside played a little crisper, just enough to win. All in all, an exciting game to open the season, and I'm certain both squads with get better over the course of the season.
Sloppy game for the offenses. Passing and catching were not where they need to be for either team to compete for championships. Riverside offense was more patient and had better off ball play. Madison isolation plays were not enough, consistently to get good looks. Seems like they are searching for an identity.
Both defenses looked solid. LSM for Madison was the best player on the field. Double digit caused turnovers. Riverside defense wasn't winning one on one matchups but played well as a unit in front of a solid keeper.
Riverside Keeper made the big saves at the right moment. Madison had a good look at the end of the game to win it in regulation but Riverside keeper made an impressive save. Both teams were resilient, battling back from a few goals down at different times in the game. Madison tried to run the clock starting at about 7 min left in the 4th which was not a great strategy in the end. Madison had the first OT possession but sloppy passing/catching bit them again. Riverside ran a patient offensive set for the game winner with an alley cut and low angle shot.
Fun game to watch.
