Yup. And I'm very confident that will continue no matter what conference, if any, each team is in. |
For peak chaos, I'd like to see ND get together with Ohio State, Alabama, Texas, USC, Penn State, Florida and Georgia and form a new super conference |
Stanford and Cal are problematic regarding testosterone and sports requiring it. |
|
As a Syracuse/ACC fan I am hoping the ACC will hold. I have little hope that ND will come in and rescue the conference (perhaps in tandem with its traditional rival Stanford).
PO'd to see that the B12 is much more active in trying to position itself as the #3 conference. I think B10 stays as is for the moment. I was reluctant to believe the rumor yesterday that Oregon, Washington, Clemson and FSU were going to the B10. Oregon and Washington maybe. I think if the B10 were to grab two ACC teams it would be UNC and Miami. Clemson and FSU just seem a better cultural fit with the SEC. |
the ACC is odd in that it is both the most stable in the short term and has an expiration date in the long term |
Big ten could kick out ND hockey. |
(OP here) I agree--except for the statement that the Big Ten remains static. It would be foolish to ignore U Washington & U Oregon. U Washington is a research powerhouse which would be #2 in the big Ten Conference behind only U Michigan. Plus, USC & UCLA need a travel distance break. Solid football program. Clemson & FSU are not AAU members so unlikely to receive an invitation from the Big Ten Conference. That story was floated over the past few days as a ploy by desperate FSU & Clemson who want to leave the ACC or be given a larger payout than that received by other member schools. The ACC may do well if it focuses on basketball in the eastern US. |
No. Notre Dame & the Big Ten have other affiliations/joint projects as well. Big Ten & ND work well together. Also, Big Ten Conference does not have enough ice hockey teams. |
The ACC panicked when it signed its last TV rights (GOR) deal. |
24 will be the max, with pods that help address the travel issue. For example for the B1G: Pod 1: Washington, Oregon, UCLA, USC, Utah, Arizona. Pod 2: Nebraska, Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Northwestern. Pod 3: Purdue, Indiana, Michigan, MSU, Ohio State, Penn State. Pod 4: Rutgers, Maryland, Virginia, UNC, Clemson, Florida State. If it were Notre Dame instead of Utah, then you move Nebraska and Purdue up one pod each and call it a day. |
LOL and leave out Michigan? Not a chance. |
|
The Big Ten Conference should add U Washington & U Oregon immediately. Both schools have already been vetted & cleared by the Big Ten for membership. The Big Ten Conference is probably just waiting for the University of Arizona announcement that it is leaving the Pac-12 for the Big 12 Conference. Others (ASU & Utah) are expected to follow Arizona & Colorado into the Big 12 Conference.
Among Pac-12 member schools, Washington State University & Oregon State University may face difficulty finding new homes which offer decent payouts. UCal-Berkeley & Stanford want the Big Ten Conference, but the Big Ten Conference needs to really weigh whether or not these two schools will benefit the conference. |
They like having ND in the hockey conference just as they like having Hopkins in the Lax conference. |
The Big Ten Conference does not appear to have any interest in the University of Arizona--even though it is an AAU member. University of Utah has been vetted by the Big Ten--but no further word regarding clearance. Clemson & FSU are SEC material; the University of Florida is Big Ten Conference compatible. What about Stanford & UCal-Berkeley ? |
| Agree that a 24 team, four division structure should be considered by the Big Ten Conference. |
