Hogan adds a vote to the GOP in the senate which means abortion bans and crappy judges.

He won’t vote to ban abortion. We need more senators who are sensible and willing to cross the aisle to work with the other side. He could be the new Manchin.

This.

He’s strategically billed himself as an old school conservative equipped to work across the aisle with centrists/moderates/Blue Dog Dems.

I won’t be surprised if he develops moderate pro-choice talking points.

She had the weight of Raskin and the party behind her.

Interestingly, she doesn’t speak in her own commercial with Raskin. She’s not that impressive.

I recognized a beloved mcps teacher/admin in Trone’s commercial—a black woman. Interesting that a black female educator didn’t support Alsobrooks.

I bet Hogan will win. Long history of black candidates from PG County who simply can’t carry the state. Plus: he has name recognition.

I'm starting to think that "she's not that impressive" is code for "she's a black woman from Prince George's County".

Unfortunately, Black women from PG county aren't making an impression on the state.

Hogan won two elections for Governor. The main problem he faces is fear of what a Republican majority would do, not himself specifically. That's a point in Alsobrooks's favor, but not something impressive about her.

I didn't see anything about Alsobrooks except for one yard sign 2 weeks ago. I also remember a commercial recently, but I don't remember who the candidate they were. That's not impressive either, for whoever it was.

Finally, it seems petty, but "Alsobrooks" is an cool but awkward name. As a fellow awkward name holder, I know that harms popularity.

She just last night blew out Trone in the primary. 243,637 voters voted for her. The vote total for governor in the Republican primary, for all candidates combined, was 238,469. So it seems like maybe black women from PG County actually are making an impression on the state.

Sorry, but no. Hard NO.

She’s totally unfit for the job. The US Senate isn’t PG county, and you don’t send someone so woefully unprepared to the Senate. She’s going to be a laughingstock.

Trone was the only serious option. A seasoned member of Congress, familiar with navigating the halls of power, and not beholden to anyone. He should’ve been the obvious, runaway choice for the Senate seat. But people got caught up in the emotion of wanting to vote for a Black woman. Any Black woman would do, in this case. Just be Black. And a woman. Qualified? What’s that mean? Who cares, right? Just vote for the Black woman. That’s what got us here.

That’s it, I’m done. I’m out. I’ll NEVER vote for Hogan or any other GQP’r rethuglicans, but I’m not voting for her either. I won’t be responsible for sending someone so woefully unqualified to the Senate.

Honestly, being a senator is not that hard. You cast votes. That’s it. Alsobrooks doesn’t need “experience” to decide which way to vote on a Trump Supreme Court nominee.

I'm voting for whichever Democrat who wins the primary, no matter which one.

Because why?

Angela Alsobrooks is a lawyer, a former state's attorney, and a county executive. And you're calling her "any black woman would do"?

For comparison, when Joe Biden was first elected to the Senate, he was a lawyer and a former representative on the New Castle County Council.

And when Tommy Tuberville was first elected to the Senate, he was a football coach.

Here’s Hogan on abortion…he doesn’t support stripping rights from women.

He'll be Susan Collins, be "deeply concerned" while throwing women under the bus. Pass.

I will be surprised. He's not pro-choice. If he develops pro-choice talking points, he will very obviously be lying, AND he will also lose votes from the forced-birthers.

He has a long record of opposing women's reproductive rights.

+1 Seriously. PP's bolded statement belies her racism. "Why don't black people stick together like me and my kind?"

Welcome to the political chat threads on DCUM where the most racist people in MoCo hang out.

Trones loss only reaffirms the power of the MD Democratic Party establishment. They could care less about democracy.

+1 women in Maryland (and the men who care about women) will not vote for a forced birther in 2024.

Doubt it. They know Hogan will vote for Trump’s SC nominees. Nothing else matters.

You know people voted, right? And Trone got trounced? He's a bad campaigner. I'm a life long Democrat and absolutely would have supported him had he won the primary, but the guy has all the finesse of a blunt axe. His blanketing constant ads turn people off him. They have for ages.

What are you arguing about? It has nothing to do with the post you’re replying to.

I read that article and I have zero problem with his decision, that only physicians should be performing abortions. Your scare tactics have to be better.
