It’s on the U.S. National Registry of Historic Places and a National Historic Landmark. It was designed by the architect of the Archives, the Jefferson Memorial, and the original National Gallery of Art. It’s the largest auditorium in the Nation’s Capital. It’s in a classic style, but was also renovated within the last decade. So, putting aside the logistical challenges associated with hosting a graduation for a Virginia high school there, if you’re blasé about the building, you’re also basically blasé about the Nation’s Capital as well. Your choice, of course, but it’s no surprise that many others feel fortunate to have graduated or to have attended graduations there. |
DAR Hall is a special venue and the students that graduate from there are very fortunate indeed. I graduated on the football field. The loud airplane noise over the nearby Potomac river didn’t help. Guests were unlimited which was a plus, but it lacked the class of a DAR Hall, and the grandparents with limited hearing ability couldn’t hear much at all. |
Enormous excveption! |
Wait until OP finds out that some Maryland graduations are being held at the Maryland Live venue, aka the auditorium/performance space of a casino. |
Yay! Looks like DAR will continue to host graduations. Great news! |
You seem... very odd. You are not required to be impressed. Just as many of us aren't impressed by a cold, impersonal arena or stadium. We're allowed to disagree, were you aware? |
+1000 Well said. There's really no use trying to explain to some of these people what a special thing it is to graduate at DAR. They clearly don't see it that way, which is their loss. |
+1 My parents were thrilled to go to DAR even though they're elderly. They, of all people, appreciated the history of the venue and the fact that their grandkids were graduating there. They've attended the graduations of their other grandchildren, held on school football fields in the heat, and said there is no comparison. |
Not really. DP |
You are inaccurate and also projecting. |
![]() Says the poster who actually said, "Are you told to sit in the kitchen barefoot and shut up - therefor, no dissent is tolerated?" No projection there, none at all! |
Actually, I'm the breadwinner in the family, so wrong again. Your narratives are quite a bit off. |
Because mean girls become mean moms, OP - and they want their way. |
This goes for both sides. |
And yet you’re the one who started in with the false (and bizarre) narratives in the first place. All because you’re throwing a tantrum. Very odd. |
