It's been held there for some years now, no? Why didn't you complain five years ago?
+1 It's been held there for decades - since at least the 1980s if not before then. I've always thought how wonderful it is that we have access to this gorgeous and historic building. Our relatives across the country can't believe our kids get to graduate there.
Again, can someone chime in regarding what might be gorgeous about the venue?? And what if one is not that easily impressed??
It’s on the U.S. National Registry of Historic Places and a National Historic Landmark. It was designed by the architect of the Archives, the Jefferson Memorial, and the original National Gallery of Art. It’s the largest auditorium in the Nation’s Capital. It’s in a classic style, but was also renovated within the last decade. So, putting aside the logistical challenges associated with hosting a graduation for a Virginia high school there, if you’re blasé about the building, you’re also basically blasé about the Nation’s Capital as well. Your choice, of course, but it’s no surprise that many others feel fortunate to have graduated or to have attended graduations there.
DAR Hall is a special venue and the students that graduate from there are very fortunate indeed. I graduated on the football field. The loud airplane noise over the nearby Potomac river didn’t help. Guests were unlimited which was a plus, but it lacked the class of a DAR Hall, and the grandparents with limited hearing ability couldn’t hear much at all.
+1 My parents were thrilled to go to DAR even though they're elderly. They, of all people, appreciated the history of the venue and the fact that their grandkids were graduating there. They've attended the graduations of their other grandchildren, held on school football fields in the heat, and said there is no comparison.
