DP. Realistically, if attending a graduate ceremony is an ordeal, it's likely going to be an ordeal whether it's held at DAR or Eagle Bank. Fortunately, there are usually ways to watch ceremonies remotely now. |
Wow - overreact much? Are you the nut whose posts are increasingly vicious, anytime someone expresses a preference for DAR? Maybe seek therapy. And btw - my kids are also excited about graduating at DAR. As are their friends. Sorry your own kids are so checked out. |
DP. No, it's actually not. Anyone disabled can be accompanied by a family member to the side entrance where there is a ramp. They are then admitted before everyone else is. Our Uber dropped us right in front of this spot - no issues whatsoever. Next complaint? |
EXACTLY. My elderly parents have always attended their grandkids' graduations (and loved, DAR, btw), but have let us know that in the future, they'd be better off watching remotely and meeting us for dinner/lunch later. Regardless of where the graduation is held. |
Thank goodness you are in the minority here. As someone who worked downtown every day for 25 years, I can handle getting down to DAR as well. It is a gorgeous historic building and I feel fortunate that our commitment exercises are held there. |
Dar is a gigantic pain in the azz and you can only have a few family members whereas at Eagle Bank every grandparent uncle aunt best friend and little cousin can attend.
DAR is also a gorgeous building, making the ceremony "grander" and makes for some beautiful pictures inside and out. The ushers will hustle you out of there so getting a shot inside is hard but not impossible if you are very quick and snap just a few. From there it is easy to take some shots at other historic buildings in D.C. I have been to both, although all my children were Langley grads and all did DAR. Even if it is a gigantic pain in the azz it is only one morning out of your life and you enjoy it more if you focus on all the good things about it. If you are driving in reserve your parking space now if you haven't already. |
Oh, don’t I know. However, when you have parents (grandparents) who feel slighted when told they would be watching it remotely, then you have to deal with family drama on top of everything else. The DAR was a pain for my parents, but it’s a beautiful venue. It’s smaller than Eagle Bank, however, so if the larger schools graduated there, you would be limited in the number of guests you could bring. |
Idk why I love this post probably just because it’s like the original post just drips with some weird sense of entitlement. My god why must my darling child graduate from this high school at the lame pathetic eaglebank arena at ugh George Mason. Couldn’t they have it at a more regal place such as the White House or us capitol perhaps the national archives or maybe northwest field that would be wonderful for my dear perfect child. But alas they must go to ugh George Mason and its run down arena. Perish! |
I mean, at least your child's graduation program won't read, "Jiffy Lube Live." |
Don’t miss this gem of a thread from last week: https://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/1273886.page |
...? Oakton has graduation at Eagle Bank and it's better than Marshall, Mclean and Madison. |
Oh my god, you're idiots. It's about size, everyone complains about DAR. |
You're horrible. I love it. |
+1 |
My favorite part about this post is that you resurrected a thread from two YEARS ago to make a case for why you are totally okay with the Eagle Bank venue. Okaaaaay. Why dig up this complaint thread only to disagree with the complaint? This is the perfect example of Everyone: [silence] You: …but I’m happy we’re not at DAR |
