Speaker of the House Vote Thread

The democrats will vote against the motion, if the republicans opposed to him follow suit, then he will look even weaker. This is getting hilarious

He’s had since 6 pm last night to negotiate. He’s had since Election Day to negotiate.

The anti-McCarthy coalition has every reason to side with the dems on this one. They want to chip away at his support until all confidence in McCarthy is lost.

His a$$. McCarthy clearly doesn't have the votes. He was out there this morning with a harebrained idea that 11 of the 20 would vote for him and the other 9 would abstain from voting. He has no strategy and is just grasping at straws. His only path forward is a deal with Jeffries, or to drop out.

Wanna bet he has the votes? This is reality TV. Fake and manufactured nonsense.

If he has the votes, then why is he seeking a motion to adjourn the House for the day?

That report looks to be false, as it looks like they're moving forward with the nominations for the 4th ballot.

You can go ahead and bet that, I’m going to go with no, he doesn’t.

Ha! Both sides are completely flailing around with no strategy or direction.

Well then I guess we'll see if PP was right in an hour or so. I'm still going with no, he doesn't have the votes.

Byron is a second termer with a bank fraud conviction. Perfect for today’s GOP.

McCarthy doesn’t get the speaker job unless he waives the right to be ousted. Ryan screwed over Rs and they haven’t forgotten.

I think he doesn't, but what I think might be happening is they have a consensus candidate in the background. Alyssa Farah Griffin tweeted that was the plan in 2015. It won't surprise me if McCarthy drops out today and a new name is put up.

Jeffries would be an idiot to accept any deal. McCarthy can offer him anything he wants, but unless republicans agree to vote for a compromise rules package, it will just be democrats and McCarthy supporting it.

You people actually believe a far left Dem is going to be elected speaker?

Judging from all the applause, Donalds sounds like he might be a lock.

I was reading about the 1855 stalemate. They eventually resolved that by voting to change the rules to make it a plurality instead of a majority. I could see that being a path here if they can get Democratic buy-in by giving Jeffries concessions.
