My parents also did this when I was growing up. In 5th grade my best friend and I had our own room next to my parents in San Francisco and we ordered coffee ice cream room service and watched movies. It was grand! Never felt abandoned ever. Y’all saying you’d never let teenagers stay in room alone even if you go to lobby are total weirdos, your poor kids!

Just leave them home if you cannot be bothered.

What if…and, you might want to sit down for this, because it might blow your mind, but what if… your 12 year old WANTED to stay in the room?

Can’t be bothered with what?? Having my kids with me 24/7 on vacation? We like having options. Yeah, my kids didn’t want to have a nice dinner downstairs. They wanted to stay inside and have movies. They aren’t attached at our hip and dont cry or pine for us at all times. They actually like that we go out and have our own time and give them some independent time. What the hell is wrong with some of you?

We just left our 13 year old for a few hours while we went to the beach. She was beached out and asked to stay behind. We texted/called/FaceTimed while we were gone and she was so much happier. It was a one bedroom suite with kitchen so she had everything she needed. I had zero problem with it.

My 12 year old always wants to come with us but it’s a nonissue as they know the answer is no. We all stay or all go.

What is wrong with you? At home fine. But from your post I can see why they would not want to go.

NP. I'm glad that works for you. My kids sometimes don't want to come with us, and I'm not a martyr, so I'm fine with it.

13 seems reasonable. 10, less so

Nope, then I go down for dinner and they stay in the room. It’s great.

How do they access it with the deadbolt on? I recently had a scary experience in a hotel so am very curious to know more.
