Even if they're sleeping? What are you going to do - gaze adoringly at their sleeping form for three hours before you go to bed yourself?

So when parents are in a hotel room with their child that means they are gazing adoringly at their sleeping form for three hours? I’ve been in many hotel rooms with my children and have never done that. Weird thought that entered your mind and all the more reason to not leave child in room alone because of creeps like yourself with odd fantasies.

Would your 15 year old be comfortable with people having access to their room while they are alone?

You act like this is a super common occurrence. I've stayed in hundreds, maybe thousands, of hotel rooms, and never has someone just entered my room while I was in there at night. Has this happened often to you? Where do you stay?

^^Drama queen

If being a drama queen means one is responsible.

She asked what age to leave a child. It was a question. She didn’t say she’s leaving an infant.

Got it, anything other than an infant is game to leave alone in hotel room.

^^Another drama queen.

Your argument is really weird and gave me the creeps.

Does it need to be super common?

Agree, that gave me the willies.

Wow, some of you are intense.

Anyway, OP, I agree with others that 12 is probably the bare minimum. But I think it would be highly kid-dependent and one of the things I'd want to be most sure of is that the kid felt comfortable with it. Some 12-yr-olds would be fine, and others would feel panicked (it depends a bit on personality, but also on how often they are left alone in general -- today there are many 12 year olds who have literally never been home alone for more than 15 minutes).

I actually know that my kid would just feel left out, which would make me feel sad, so I wouldn't do it. But not because I don't think they'd be safe. In a few years when they are mid teens, they'll just come to the lounge with us and feel grown up and start to learn what that's like. But at 12 I think they'd be uncomfortable and feel a bit abandoned, so it's not time yet.

That wasn’t me, sparky. I am just a passerby who thinks you see creepiness because you have creepy thoughts.

This is the person who you worry about when considering leaving child alone.

Do you let your high school age kids go on trips where they are in a hotel room without an adult? I did that in high school for Model UN. If they are old enough for that, why can't you leave them.alone to go downstairs if they fall asleep first and you aren't tired yet?

Agree. I think 12 is when I’d consider it.
