How did Herndon/Westfield HS go from top to bottom?

Class size - @ 560-570 kids

FARMS rate: @ 33.5% (slightly above current county-wide rate)

Ethnic composition: Asian 36.7%, Hispanic 27.3%, White 22.4%, Black 9.2%, Multi-Racial 4.4%

So, like Centreville and Chantilly now, it would have a plurality Asian population and would not resemble Mount Vernon, which is currently both majority FARMS and majority Hispanic.

Ok Now do Coates, McNair, Hutchinson, Herndon, Dogwood and you will find the Mount Vernon of Western Fairfax.

If you combine all Five of those you get 790 as a class size with 58 percent FARMS rate
Take out McNair it’s a manageable 616 kids as the class size with a 68 percent FARMS rate.

For reference Mount Vernon HS is only 60 percent FARMS………
So yes such a Western HS will end up potentially having the highest FARMS HS in the entire county.

Which is why they are not going to assign that combination of schools to Western High, as has been pointed out repeatedly.

You seem to think you’re making a clever argument, but you’re not.

This was just to show that is very ***possible*** to create a Western Mount Vernon HS caliber school against those saying otherwise. Why bus kids from Oak Hill/Fox Mill when you have nearby Herndon and Dogwood. But hey if one wants to waste millions in extra fuel costs just to achieve racial and economic balancing at the expense of hiring and raising teacher pay, I dare say and bet the way I think the school board will proceed.

If long bus trips offend you, you should be a lot more concerned about kids traveling 13 miles to Langley now than about the possibility that kids who live in the Oak Hill part of Herndon might travel four miles to a high school near Hutchison in the future.

Yes which is why I suggested Forestville/Great Falls be brought down south to Herndon HS to make up for the lost Hutchinson/Herndon kids. but thanks for incorrectly suggesting otherwise. Though I am a political moderate I have been called ugly and even racist for suggesting that Hutchinson HS not bus the Fox Mill/Oak Hill kids over and that is what I am upset about. Why are people upset Hutchinson’s natural boundaries essentially form a center of poverty and seek to “remedy” an artificial diversity problem. Why do the hispanic kids need more white/Asian kids in their school to succeed? isn’t this exactly a self fulfilling prophecy? They are the racists themselves for implying that the hispanic kids can’t succeed unless surrounded by wealthier peers. Poorer schools are given not only equal but more resources per capita via FCPS’ staffing model, but yet people continually suggest to break up the Oak Hill community to remedy Problems elsewhere.

There is never going to be a Hutchison High School. That piece of land is too small. They were looking at property on the other side of the toll road but condos are being built over there now. Forget that idea.

I wonder if a new middle school will be built too.

I hope PP’s kids spend their entire four years of high school in trailers.

Counting the county park - there is already more land than Fairfax HS- for comparison. The apartment owner adjacent to the west is willing to sell- and then you get to another county property --Cricket grounds.
There is enough grounds currently- can expand surface area- if desired. However, the location makes it difficult for traffic. IF they are going to build- Where else is there sufficient land?

This entire conversation is facinating. The issues of race, class, and socioeconomic status bubble up all throughout this discussion.

All people - rich or middle class, black/white/asian/hispanic- will do what is best for their children. Some people believe having children who can't keep up with the classes offered or otherwise divert resources away from the majority of those who can work at a higher level would take away from their own children's education.

Its facinating because this county votes for democrats overall while actively protecting their own family and community from the impact of policies supported by democrats (i.e. ensuring that children flooding in from the border don't cross the threshold of their public schools, ensuring kids in apartments are sent to certain schools). Like it or not people can and will use their collective political power to do what is best for their children. Calling them names isn't going to stop that.

What I find interesting is that Even if Hutchinson HS becomes the 70 percent FARMS HS any taking in Coates, Hutchinson, Dogwood, Herndon elementary schools, is that South Lakes and Herndon HS will still have around 20-25 percent FARMS compromising the poorer schools of Forest Edge, Lake Anne, Clearview, etc. It’s unavoidable for those two high schools to not have some FARMS kids given proximity concerns, so if Floris/Fox Mill/Oak Hill parents really didn’t want their kids with those poverty kids they would have moved and easily afforded a house in the Madison/Oakton/Woodson pyramids.

Oak Hill residents like myself despite the claims of racism do not mind some level of economic and racial diversity. Did you non Oak Hill residents know that Floris is majority Asian, one of them being myself. We have a lot of experience in how difficult it can be to be a racial minority in this country and have empathy for poor and other minorities. But, we will NOT ACCEPT the forced engineering of demographics that puts strains on county resources and personal logistics. But, then like TJHSST admissions we learned from the progressives that the true white supremacists were us Asians!

FCPS isn't going to build a new high school and load it up exclusively with high FARMS schools. Far more likely is a school comprised of Hutchison, Coates, McNair, Oak Hill, Fox Mill, and part of Floris.

And most people living in the Floris/Fox Mill/Oak Hill areas could not easily have afforded Madison/Oakton/Woodson (especially Madison and Oakton), so just go ahead and move to Ashburn now if a school with 25% Hispanic kids triggers you that much.

Your arguments about the "forced engineering of demographics" will fall flat, as they should.

The situation with TJHSST isn't really comparable, unless you simply view it as about some Asians not always getting their way.

Keep dreaming in your delusions. Take a look at Floris and Oak Hill housing on Zillow and compare it to Woodson and Oakton on Zillow. FCPS already has a Mount Vernon/Lewis/Annadale loaded with FARMS kids, Hutchinson will be no different.

Only people with enough money can get around the various difficulties imposed by government. (Democrats in this case)

Parks closed during the pandemic? Richer families have land and go online to order playsets. They move to get a yard if they were previously in a townhouse or high rise.

Schools closed during a pandemic? Go private, move to a spot where schools are open because you can work from your laptop, or hire a teacher and form a pod (if you are a ffx county school board member.

Feel that your child is being ignored in public school because there are so many children there new to the country who need intensive help? Move to a different school zone, pay for private or homeschool.

It’s the middle class democrats who can’t make the above work out who vote blue consistently and then complain about the outcome. They are the ones who want to move kids here and there and everywhere.

Less expensive area. Which doesn't mean, of course, that some parents there won't throw a hissy fit if FCPS assigns them to a school some day with more Hispanic kids than Chantilly.

And it's Hutchison, not Hutchinson, and Annandale, not Annadale.

They will never load up a new Hutchison HS with just high-FARMS schools in Herndon and Reston, so start making your plans now, snowflake.

Where are they going to put the elementary school needed to replace Hutchison when it’s demolished to put up the high school?

I have no idea what you're babbling about. Plans have been in the works for a new western HS for a long time; the only difference is that it's finally inching forward now (with over $23 million now set aside for land acquisition). Schools like Chantilly have almost 3000 kids and no room to expand. Only some self-indulgent narcissist would claim it's about screwing middle-class Democrats.
