| In addition to the families of the victims (obviously), I feel sorry for the father, step-mother, and step-sister of Wint. They appear to be conscientious, good people, and this has got to be unbelievably devastating for them. Also, I saw an interview of several of the parents' neighbors. They live in a nice, quiet, suburban neighborhood. Full of leafy trees, people walking dogs. How terrible to have such evil in your midst. |
| This crime is so heinous that even if the guilty parties are jailed for life or executed, it doesn't come close to even or anything like that. The damage was done as soon as these victims were killed. This is how I feel about the Boston bombing case too. It is just the sense that it's not nearly enough punishment, but it is all we can do I guess. |

| Technically any lawyers including defense attorneys, have pledged not to knowingly support the commission of a crime. There is a huge grey area here, and as we cannot read people's thoughts, what one person believes as true and reality is usually subjective. Hence a defense attorney should never ask someone to lie or allow someone to deliberately perjury themselves (as in Wint says I did it, but then hetakes the stand and uses the shaggy defense it wasn't me). Often a defense attorney may tell the defendant not to tell them and th defense spends their time finding experts to counter the prosecution. But as for a defense attorney telling an expert "ok, so wint did it, but I need you to lie under oath and say x y z, " no, that attorney should loose their li scenes and be prosecuted. But as for claiming crazy scenarios, sure (wint went for a midnight stroll in the NW neighborhood. Got hungry. Saw a discarded dominoes box, opened if, took a bite, put back the crust. In your opinion forensic expert for the prosecution, could this have caused my clients Dna on the crust????). |

I can't say I've read all 232 pages of this thread, so please forgive if the following few points are repetitive:
1. Thank God for Law Enforcement! In an age where police work is sadly becoming highly politicized, I'm glad these individuals were apprehended safely, although I doubt there would've been rioting if any of them had been hurt. 2. Be careful whom you associate with and whom you hire. People with a criminal record and multiple arrests and convictions for violent behavior are not choir boys. Be careful. Although nobody ever saw this coming, there are people out there who are criminally insane and integrated into our free society, who should be institutionalized or locked up for prior offenses. 3. The Daily Mail tabloid in London had more scoops and better coverage than any U.S. news outlets. Check out their website. We should be ashamed. 4. Robin Ficker is a disgrace and a publicity hog. 5. For torturing a child to death, this animal will receive the same fate in prison. |
WaPo said the suspect, the men in the other car, and the women with him were all arrested. |
You are suggesting Wint has already called this guy to represent him in this murder case? Between last night and this morning? Or do you think Wint has him on retainer? I don't think so. |

I'm hopeful there will be another news conference today.
Like everyone else, I am horrified by this crime. It bothers me that I was going about my normal business on the days in question, living my life, laughing, eating, while not far away this innocent family and employee were being tormented and tortured. My god, it is sickening. And of course I do realize that crimes and suffering are going on continually around the world while I am living my sheltered life, but the fact that it was so close by makes me ill. |

thanks! I was reading another source. |
The reporters who work for publications like the Daily Mail and the Daily News in NY know how to work a crime story. Papers like the NYT or the Post tend to hire well-credentialed young reporters from elite schools who want to be the next Bob Woodward. (It used to be that the Post hired more reporters who first had cut their teeth on local stories on papers like the Miami Herald.) An editor at the Harvard Crimson doesn't exactly know his/her way around the police beat or night court. |

For PP that was a juror and mentioned another juror that said they would never convict under any circumstances--I hope you reported him or her to the judge. It is a huge waste of judicial resources, as well as your time, plus the person certainly lied to the judge when he or she was asked of there was any reason he or she could not keep an open mind and render a fair decision. The person might even be held in contempt for this.
I've seen it go the other way--where someone wants to get out of jury duty so they tell the judge they couldn't possibly be fair. The judge gives them a nasty look but then basically has to let them go because if the person says they won't judge fairly the judge can't seat him or her. |
I am not suggesting either, just telling you what I've read. It is possible to call an attorney from jail, even at midnight, but I'm not claiming to know if that's what happened. |
| don't believe everything you read in the daily mail, just saying.... |
They probably slip their sources a Ben Franklin here and there too. |
