Before Trump was stupid enough to get us into this mess, he was refilling the SPR, but it's not an instantaneous process. From a Linkedin post from 2024, the "fastest 4-wk avg fill rate in SPR's history was 365 kb/d in June 2020" https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/realities-refilling-us-strategic-petroleum-reserve-spr-hamilton-vcwre |
$3.5B is one day of Trump's waste, fraud, and abuse. The SPR is a total non-issue. We don't need it. We need a Strategic Presidency Reserve. |
The US has plenty of oil, in ongoing new supply. It literally comes out of the ground. All the US has to do if we need oil is to stop giving it away it billionaires to sell overseas. |
Muzzle him, please. |
How exactly did Biden misuse the SPR when he sold high and bought low. He made money for the USA, unlike Trump who only makes money for the Trump family. |
Petroleum varies widely, location matters, as does time of year. We literally can't refine a significant fraction of the oil we pull out of the ground because refineries are set up to process specific crudes, what crudes are available where depends in part on where pipelines run (e.g. Midwest refineries are set up to process horrible oil sands crap), needed fractions vary depending on location/time of year (e.g. the South doesn't need heating oil and it's only needed in the winter and different locations have different environmental laws), and the West Coast is cut off from the rest of the US. |
frankly, walking away without a 300 billion dollar committment is better than the deal, so the US should simply walk away and let the gulf states deal with it. |
Biden sold high, but, he didn't follow up buying low, he just sold off stuff that had been bought low. |
Trump from Jan 20, 2025 to February 28, 2026 add 22 million barrels for a total of 415 million barrels in the SPR before releasing or 5% a year. If he had kept at that pace he would had 88 million barrels in four year. At current rate of release that is about 10 weeks supply. Trump did next to nothing in terms of adding to the SPR. Biden average 50 million barrels a year for a total of 200 million barrels. Also the average price per barrel during that year and one month was 63.39 for West Texas Intermediate (WTI). The Biden administration released approximately 260 million barrels of crude oil from the SPR and added about 200 million barrels back through strategic purchases. 60 million barrel difference. Trump has released 172 mb and add 22 mb. That is a different of 150 mb. So I guess your point is Trump added 22 million barrels vs Biden adding 200 million barrels? So given how long the bar is for Trump and republicans Trump did better than Biden! I know math is maga hard. |

I’ve been thinking the same thing. Can we cut our losses and leave? |
The man can’t win a war on algae, he might be over his head here. |
| Why are you arguing about the Strategic petroleum reserve with that troll? We have lots of oil over here so the SPI is an irrelevant point. This Iran war that never should have happened is a worse mistake than the Iraq War. What a waste tax payer dollars. And your troll is worried about how much extra profit we could have made above the billions we did, while this war is draining our taxes that could be spent on Americans. Lol. |

I’m sorry if this statement is too bold, but I’m just going to come right out and say it:
This war was probably not a good idea! |
To quote Trump himself from February 27, 2017: "Nobody knew that health care could be so complicated". Now replace health care with war in Iran. He's not a deep thinker. |
