Will school weapon detections cause class time delay?

Our middle schools did not have them and they did not say anything to the kids about them today.

The schools need to open the doors earlier.

You are out to lunch then. This could not have been due to metal detectors bc Chantilly has not yet started the metal detectors. So your child was just plain late.

Not the PP but I was told all FCPS high schools and middle schools started today? Is this incorrect and if so why is Chantilly not starting?

It said all will get them in the fall but doesn’t specify the day. They have not been installed or used yet at Chantilly. I was told in 3 weeks they will start. So how was a child that got dropped off at 7:35 am almost late to class when they aren’t screening yet?

It could have been a lost freshman.

Anonymous wrote:South county started today. Lines around the schools. 4 doors and 2000 kids. Have to take everything out of backbacks. Kids were 20 minutes late to class. Completely unsustainable and totally unnecessary.

Westfield had 2 doors total for 2800 kids.
My dc said there was only one metal detector at their door.

I thought they were supposed to have installed more?

Yes, if only they taught math, it would be obvious that the numbers just won’t work.

This is such a joke.

+1 just wait and see what it’s like when the kids have to take out the laptops.

For schools doing weapon detectors, could the bathrooms at least now be all open?

there was alot of traffics in and out of the school today. Doors open 7:45 instead of 8:00 and you can only enter through 2 doors so maybe that’s the issue? I guess everyone showed up at the same time today.

This thread is about weapons detection systems making kids tardy. The Chantilly poster wrongfully implied that Chantilly started their metal detectors yesterday am and that’s why their kid was late.

Oakton kids hadn't gotten laptops yet.

Westfield kids also don't have laptops but some of the bus riders missed almost the whole first period-thats over an hour in line.

Utterly unacceptable. I’m writing a letter and will vote them all out.

DD said the line was long but moving at Fairfax yesterday.

Reasons for students to be allowed in before 7:45 AM.

So they can go to the band room and drop off their instrument; so they can meet up with friends in the lobby; so they can go to the cafeteria for a quick breakfast -essential for many students who have food insecurity; so they can check in with teachers or perhaps turn in missing work; so they can get out of the elements if their parents drop them off and it is raining or snowing.

Were any of these reasons taken into account?
