Will school weapon detections cause class time delay?

Oakton kids hadn't gotten laptops yet.

Westfield kids also don't have laptops but some of the bus riders missed almost the whole first period-thats over an hour in line.

Utterly unacceptable. I’m writing a letter and will vote them all out.

Reasons for students to be allowed in before 7:45 AM.

So they can go to the band room and drop off their instrument; so they can meet up with friends in the lobby; so they can go to the cafeteria for a quick breakfast -essential for many students who have food insecurity; so they can check in with teachers or perhaps turn in missing work; so they can get out of the elements if their parents drop them off and it is raining or snowing.

Were any of these reasons taken into account?

And now, long lines with rain!

Its too bad washingtonpost gutted their metro staff. They used to have dedicated school reporters who would be on this debacle. Now FCPS Admin just get away with no one publicly shaming their incompetence.

+1. At the door my dd went in, there was only one metal detector. They are using two doors.
Why are there only two working metal detectors at one of the largest high schools in the county?

My DC's bus was late yesterday, which caused DC being very late for the 1st period after passing the screening detector. So daddy decided to drive DC to school. They got stuck in the traffic for quite a long time. Are more parents trying diving and dropping their high school kids today? But fortunately, DC arrive school earlier and got 12 minutes before the first period.

Zero instances of weapons reported in schools yesterday. But that would have been true in any case. I got info of a student with a knife at our school last year, but no official announcement from the school. They send announcements of overdoses but they are hiding incidents where weapons are found. I wonder if they told parents about every weapon they've found if suddenly the security procedures would make sense.

Why don’t they just do it on random days so the kids don’t know when. Like every week, 2-3x a week. Then at least every day wouldn’t be impacted but if kids don’t know when it will be, they would still be deterred from bringing contraband.

If you don't normally drive your kid to school, you may just not know how congested it is around the high schools.

Our kids are going in four different doors with scanners. How is a much larger school only using two scanners?

Also, it might depend on PP's location and traffic before arriving at the high school. For example, kids going to Westfield from Coates area are would confront heavy traffic no matter which way they go. Same with Franklin Farm kids to Oakton. Ever been on I66 in the a.m.?
