Bluemont neighborhood of Arlington

Anonymous
We're looking for a house in N. Arlington and have mostly focused in Tara and Lyon Village. But we saw a few reasonably priced listings in Bluemont. We don't know much about this neighborhood. Is it a good place for families?

I would love to live there. Good luck.

Great family neighborhood. Ashlawn is a great. Lots of parks. A few restaurants nearby. The Safeway there sucks, but there is a HT not too far away. A hidden gem.

I looked for houses there - they were going too quickly for me to buy any of them! The location is great - you're very close to Ballston/66, and the schools are good. Lots of young families moving in, and very good access to the W&OD and Custis trails, plus some parks.

There's a lot of diversity of housing - some junky older homes that are probably tear-downs, some cuter well-kept older homes and a rapidly growing stock of new and new-ish homes on lots where older homes were torn down.

good luck, OP! You might consider Waycroft/Woodlawn and Cherrydale, too.

oh! I'm in Bluemont north of I-66. It's a great neighborhood. The neighbors are super-nice! Great bike trail right here! We walk to Ballston metro on the bike trail.

We are renting but I have to mention, now that I'm living here…if I were to buy, if not here, I'd look at Westover area. That little block has EVERYTHING so you can walk and get everything. Doesn't look like it at first but it's true. Library, restaurants, dry cleaners, bank, Rite-Aid, grocery, beer garden(!), 7-11, manicure place. The hardware store has all sorts of things.
The only thing it doesn't have is a gas station and if you need gas, you're in your car anyways so that doesn't matter.

It's not the best part of Arlington, to put in mildly. It's kind of, well, basic. The housing isn't very nice and the schools aren't the best, either. But it's not dangerous and there are some nice parks.

I'm being honest. There's a very big difference between Lyon Village and Bluemont in terms of desirability.

Not really. Lyon Village? That's too close to Clarendon for most people's tastes. The most desirable neighborhoods in Arlington are north of Lee Highway.

You sound like a sad, status-obsessed person.
