Never used vitamix but we've been juicing for ages, DH since the 70s, heck even my MIL was a juicer starting in the 50s (obviously the equipment was not nearly as high tech back then).
We do it for the health benefits but it is a fad for a lot of people. 1) Anything healthy is in vogue, 2) Vegetables are wicked expensive nowadays so juicing is also a status symbol, and 3) people think it will make them skinny/trim. I really don't care why people do it but I am happy that some many people are adding nutrients into their diets. For a change, I'm happy with a "fad" but I hope it sticks. |

Juicing is expensive -- I think Vitamix/Nutribullet is just as good and uses all the produce so less is wasted. |
I'm a blender and use my Vitamix multiple times a day and not just for blended vegetable juices. I use it to make salad dressings, sauces, soups, and a lot of other things where I want to get a professional texture. |

we juice but not as often as i would like. and my one year old drinks what we juice as well.
it is expensive, especially if you are doing organic. but there are other times when something might go bad before i can use it so i juice it. |
| Just eat the fruit or vegetable whole. It's a thousand times better for you than juiced fruit or vegetables, which strips fiber and a lot of nutrients. It'll also keep you more full. |
| Vitamix is a blender so you get the benefit of the nutrients and the fiber unlike a juicer where the pulp is discarded. |

We drink a Vitamix Veggie drink almost every morning. The whole veggies are used so you're not extracting juice and discarding all the fiber and nutrients like you do with a juicer.
We do it because we are in a hurry in the morning, don't have time to make a healthy breakfast, and it's a quick and easy way to get veggies into our bodies on a daily basis. They fill me up until lunch and taste really good. I usually cut up veggies on the weekends and have them ready to just throw in the Vitamix every morning with some ice and water to thin it out. I always have tomatoes, and then add any or all of the following: celery, zucchini, broccoli, kale, spinach, peppers (if I make one just for DH and myself, I use chilies to give it some spice!), parsley, cilantro, chives, carrots, sliver of onion or garlic. |

As a chef, I'm kind of glad the vitamin is finally popular with home cooks but am also always a bit surprised what people think they "need" something as powerful as a vitamix for. The shearing strength of a KitchenAid blender is more than enough for most applications. The "professional texture" is from the chinois, not the blender. |
I was surprised when the Vitamix buzz started, and wondered why it was suddenly on the radar of home cooks. Then I opened a Williams Sonoma catalog and all mystery vanished! |

We have a Vitamix and I think it is great, but certainly not worth it for what we use it for - green and other "healthy" smoothies. I probably should have bought a NutriBullet or whatever the latest is called.
I have been trying to incorporate fruit/veggie drinks as a sort of meal replacement once or twice a day, because I need to lose weight and they are fast to make and nutritious. |
