Juicing and vitamix

We do it because we are in a hurry in the morning, don't have time to make a healthy breakfast, and it's a quick and easy way to get veggies into our bodies on a daily basis.

They fill me up until lunch and taste really good. I usually cut up veggies on the weekends and have them ready to just throw in the Vitamix every morning with some ice and water to thin it out.

I always have tomatoes, and then add any or all of the following: celery, zucchini, broccoli, kale, spinach, peppers (if I make one just for DH and myself, I use chilies to give it some spice!), parsley, cilantro, chives, carrots, sliver of onion or garlic.

is it bitter? raw broccoli is so strong...

It can be if you don't balance it. That's why I always put tomatoes in - 2 or 3 at least - they really sweeten it up. When I use broccoli I use a smaller quantity so that it doesn't over power everything else. Cucumbers will also help balance the flavors.

For the chefs that wonder about home use of Vitamix, I admit that when I bought it several years ago, I really didn't need it for anything that I couldn't use my regular blender for (DH and I were sold at one of those home show demonstrations!!). But then when I started making the veggie drinks, I found you really do need something that powerful otherwise they are too gritty to drink. Especially with things like carrots, beets, broccoli, etc. And that's when I started using it almost on a daily basis.

I'm a blender and use my Vitamix multiple times a day and not just for blended vegetable juices. I use it to make salad dressings, sauces, soups, and a lot of other things where I want to get a professional texture.

As a chef, I'm kind of glad the vitamin is finally popular with home cooks but am also always a bit surprised what people think they "need" something as powerful as a vitamix for. The shearing strength of a KitchenAid blender is more than enough for most applications. The "professional texture" is from the chinois, not the blender.

Wrong.

Must have been line cook at Bennigans before they closed.

Vitamix has been around and making blenders for home kitchens for many decades, so this isn't some brief slap-chop fad. For kicks: http://www.google.com/trends/explore#q=slap%20chop%2Cvitamix

I used my Vitamix every day when I got it. Now, maybe once a week. But I'm very happy every time I do.

I just got mine in the mail last night, and I'm so excited that I must randomly post. Any suggestions on what I should make? I'm definitely doing some green smoothies.

Anyone feel kinda icky after eating green smoothies in the morning?

No, on the contrary, I always feel great. However, it could be a placebo effect - who knows! I'm just happy to get the extra veggies into my system.
