I know a lot of non-Jews who are hugely supportive of Israel as a democratic ally in the Middle East and as a home/important origin for the Christian religion as well as for Jewish and Muslim. Many American Christians visit Israel annually on trips to learn more about Christ and his life. Nearly every American service member I know supports Israel from a military perspective.

If Israel acted like moral occupiers, they wouldn’t see so much resistance but the laws of justice and fairness taught in Judaism escape them as a nation and they stand on their original sin of the Nakba with force and extreme cruelty instead of being fair. Do you know that people who aren't Jewish care about whether or not the State of Israel exists or not? The small percentage of Jews in this country =/= the percentage who care about the issue. For that matter, not all 2% of US Jews want Israel to exist.

As for finding it on a map, people voted on their feelings about Afghanistan and Iraq and couldn't find those on a map either. Americans form opinions about issues all the time without regard for maps.

Sorry to shatter your world but 98% of the people do not care. Israel is so unimportant to the vast majority of Americans that they do not even know it exist- ie can not find it on a map. Israel’s support among politicians is all manufactured by lobbyist. Israel policy in the US use to have no downside because 98% of Americans did not care. Israel had the political profile equivalent to importing farm raised salmon from Argentina.

That has changed with AIpac pushing of right wing ideology, the heinous crimes against humanity Israel commits daily and Israel giving the US the finger on everything. This keeps Israel in the news. No American wants to attack Iran or anyone else for Israel. No American wants to support a country that kills a little girls family, let’s her sit with her families blood all over her for hours and then kills the people who were sent to help her.

You are very wrong about this. I know a lot of non-Jews who are hugely supportive of Israel as a democratic ally in the Middle East and as a home/important origin for the Christian religion as well as for Jewish and Muslim. Many American Christians visit Israel annually on trips to learn more about Christ and his life. Nearly every American service member I know supports Israel from a military perspective.

So what happens when the ally becomes a liability?
