If you had 600 million dollars, how many parks would you build?
Do lots of people tell you, ‘what’s your point’? Add me to list. Wtf are you talking about. If I had 600 million dollars I’d be very generous with my money. I know this, because I’m generous now. Lots of people aren’t. Kobe is and should be applauded for it.

There are a lot of people, with a lot of money, who do little to nothing for poor people.

which is why they still have a lot of money...

from what I heard it was cloudy and the pilot essentially flew into the side of the mountain, low clouds/fog
Bill gates helps many and he’s still rich. You can still be rich and help people. You’re money won’t go anywhere

He was giving back to countless communities and causes without any fanfare. He was lending his voice to equity in sports for women, he was starting financial programs and investing in the community. By all accounts, he and his wife and children were a beautiful and loving family. If you can’t see the man that has emerged and evolved over the past 16 years then you are portraying a false narrative not the media.
Well said. He was way more than a ball player to many

Nailed it.

Can someone way in that has experience either with the geography of this part of California, or traveling by helicopter – which is obviously different than traveling by airplane.
Why would the helicopter turn to the south, when I believe they were going somewhere north west of where the plane crash occurred.
Also curious: it seems they were instructed to fly along a highway, but then ended up crashing in the hillside. It seems very fortunate the helicopter didn’t land in the middle of the highway, or in a neighborhood.

I don't think anyone knows why. Maybe just confusion. The pilot likely had zero visibility. I live in the area and it was EXTREMELY thick fog. I was driving on the freeway in the very early hours that morning and it was quite scary.

I also live in the area. The fog has been wicked for the last few days, and it comes in quick. I was driving with DS on Friday night - we were on the freeway, going at a good clip when all of the sudden we hit a literal wall of zero-visibility fog. Thank God it was late at night and not many cars were on the road in that specific section of the freeway. We went from 60mph, down to 20mph within seconds, and I had to turn on my hazards for those behind me. It was frightening.

As for why the pilot turned south - he had just passed Burbank Airport, and I am only guessing here, but he probably wanted to see if he could land there instead of in El Monte which is further inland. The terrain is mountainous, and jagged in many areas. Lots of vegetation.

you're a sick and callous individual to even admit to such a thing. NPR is pretty much where you belong.

My point was if you have 600 million giving 20 million to charity doesn't make you a hero.

Why is everyone forgetting that he was accused if rape?

We had a whole long discussion about how some people can think someone is a hero while others don’t. Chill.

The victim is stlill alive. She was a 19 year old hotel worker. Do you doubt that she was poor and helpless and had no voice at all.

I am heart broken that Kobe and others have died. His greatness and his charity work and all the great things he did does not absolve him of his crime and his sin against this woman.

I hope that the things he achieved in later life was informed by his desire to atone in some ways. Remember that he has a 17 year old daughter who will have the chance of a lot going for her in two years time inspire of her father's death.A whole lot more than a poor girl working in a hotel who was violently raped and choked.

Kobe was a great man and a great athlete. Kobe also raped a young girl and was an adulterer. Both realities do exist at the same time.

He may have been trying to make amends because he had done a horrible thing. Maybe having 4 daughters made him more sensitive to what women fear and face.

I could not bear to look at Kobe and his wife during and after the rape. Never watched him play either. I am very sad and heartbroken for the deaths of everyone and horrified About the loss that the families are facing.so many children and parents dead...it is very tragic.

I grieve for all lives lost. I am not grieving for Kobe the athlete, but certainly for the father and husband!!

Actually keeping it factual, she worked at a hotel, but she came from a very, very, wealthy family. The family was worth well over 5 million dollars. And before Jeff comes in to delete this entire post, she choose not to testify, which then caused the case to be dropped. That were her choice. For sure he was a cheater, but his wife obviously forgave him. He was 24 when this happened, and the family for all intents and purposes moved past it.
