They've revised it about 6 times.

I'm not quite sure why he thinks continuing to tell people over and over again that he's not actually doing anything yet to address the severe overcrowding within FCPS is a message that everyone would find reassuring.

So. He's going to hire an outside consultant to recommend policy changes. How much $$? Just how many different issues are there? Do they think the consultant is a magician?

And, we all know what will happen, it will come back to the SB and they will argue and yak and do what they intended to do to start with.

Exactly. The staff has done all the research an outside consultant will do. They just want some third party to slap a “best practices” label on what they’ve already decided to do.

To be fair, this is Corbett Sanders’ idea, not Brabrand’s, but if he had any spine he’d point out what a waste of time and money this will be.

Don't worry McLean! We know your kids are unsafe, your teachers are burdened and you're sick of it, but we're going to handle it all ! Never mind that the class of 2026 may end their high school careers in trailers too! Probably there won't be a tornado that causes death and dismemberment to the kids who can't make it to a safe area! One Fairfax!

This is great. Lies about how recently the policy was updated (hint... it hasn't been 20 years) and lies about seeking transparency. Why did the board present a replacement boundary policy in July and schedule it for a vote in September? They were planning on changing the policy without any public input, that's why. They thought they had gotten away with keeping it quiet, and found out in July that many people had taken notice. So now they're doing damage control.

Also love how he says "people buy houses in certain neighborhoods in the hope that they will go to a particular school." If the board can't provide consistency in boundary expectations, if good schools can become bad schools on a whim, they are not doing their job.

He didn't help himself with that speech.

On a side note, tornadoes are pretty much a complete non issue in Fairfax County VA.

Yes. Was pretty much a non issue in my mom's neighborhood until it was. Her house was hit and the neighbor's house was leveled. Another state, but a neighborhood that had never seen a tornado.

And, there was a tornado that did quite a lot of damage in Centreville a few years ago. 20 years, maybe?

Exactly.

So the person freaking out over tornados hitting the McLean portables is being completely unreasonable.

I've always told my kids that an unnecessary risk, no matter how small, is an unacceptable risk.

I do vote for school board reps. That's the difference.

Uh huh. Most of the Board that takes office in January 2020 will likely consist of new members.

Half, I thought.

One or two of them are trying to make the move to B.O.S. Still relevant.

Half are not seeking re-election and at least half of the incumbents seeking re-election are vulnerable.

My impressions

Keys gamarra--- okay overall. Not alot of Dranesville fans. Could win but not without effort.
NO. SHE’S THE PERIOD LADY. SHE THINKS POOR PEOPLE DON’T TAKE CARE OF THEIR CHILDREN.

Moon-- pretty well respected, probably safe. (I thought he was withdrawing)
HE’S AWFUL AND HE AND RYAN ARE DONE.

Wilson--alright.Has his moments
HE’S JUST WHAT WE NEED.

Schultz--people seem to love or hate. Actually has sone feeling when speaking about her constituents
THE VOICE OF REASON AND THE ONLY ONE WITH A BACKBONE!

McLaughlin--solid and unbeatable
AS LONG AS YOU'RE FROM WOODSON AND GAY, YOU’RE FINE BY HER. OTHERWISE SHE’S SPINELESS.

Corbett Sanders-- probably will be safe, I guess most don't care about that expansion with capacity nearby thing. Maybe the building is really old though.

Can we get these people focusing on students and families somehow? Another outside consultant? Just stop it.

Pretty sure that Moon finally withdrew.

Excellence and success cannot occur with this attitude.

Exactly. Always teach kids to cross the street without looking.

Taking certain calculated risks in life can be very wise, improve odds of long-term success, lead to growth, etc... and by definition be "unnecessary".
