Metro United

We also registered for the 06 ID session that was supposed to be at Lake Fairfax tonight, but have not received anything from MU by email saying they pulled back the session. This is disorganized, and I don't see any info/explanation on their website.

Maybe rosters are done?

Do you know it has been "pulled back." Why don't you email one of the contacts to check?

Definitely email the coaches and check. The current 05’s won’t be there tonight because they are mostly traveling to New York tonight.

Yes, come and sit on the MU bench instead. What does this post mean? If you sit on the bench at another team, you are perfect for MU?

Yes - it means if you are a bench warmer for FCV DA, VDA ECNL, McLean ECNL, or Loudoun ECNL … come join MU and get some playing time because their players aren't quite as good. Your practices won't be as competitive, but you'll get more game time. Trade off decision.

Or, if your coach has his favorites, and no matter what you do, it's not possible to get him to see you as a player, go anywhere else. MU is an option, and so is another club where you can get a fresh look from a new coach.

Unless bench is your child's favorite position. In that case, stay where you are.

This is the correct answer. Stop posting a-hole responses that incorrectly state MU players aren’t good, it’s just not true. There were a few who weren’t ready for this level on Spirit VA this past year, and due to the club changes they shouldn’t be returning next year. MU could definitely use players who aren’t coach favorites elsewhere, wasting their talent on the bench. As someone alluded to in another post, it makes the entire region stronger for the best players to find starting positions at all of the elite options vs loading very good players onto benches at a few of those options.

I did not say that MU players aren't good. Of course they are good. MU is still a DA team. I said they are not quite as good as starters (implied) on other ECNL / DA teams. Now, you can argue about coaching favoritism - but that is a part of real life that your kid will have to deal with in school, work, and life. Stop complaining and either leave and go to MU or stay and have a serious talk with your current coach. Or not, just sit there and be a victim.

SOME are absolutely as good as starters on other DA/ECNL teams. In the very real world of recruiting, SOME have been recruited by other such teams, presumably to replace their starters, otherwise why recruit.... Not all for sure, but SOME. As everyone has been saying, though, one man's trash is another man's treasure... Depending on position and what a club is looking for, one high level starter can be a bench warmer elsewhere.

The bottom line is not every coach gets it right, and sometimes more training is required. After all, if Spirit/MU were so bad, other area DAs (yes, FCV included) and every ECNL team in the area wouldn't have targeted, recruited and given significant time to them. 2 of the 3 new players on FCV's U19 team that have been mentioned on this forum as being on the team for a year came from Spirit.

Tonight was listed on the website before, and now it is all of a sudden missing. They don't even have a contact person listed there. Any 06s planning to go tonight? I hope someone is there from MU.

Call the MU staff, why the repeat the question on the anonymous forum?

If someone says yes, and you show up, are you going to blame MU staff for you not contacting them to confirm?

They hold practices on Friday night so coaches should be there to evaluate external players who come. I don’t believe practices were cancelled.

Training has been canceled for the out of town weekend trips. Players who wish to be ID’d should try to contact the metro, George Hales or Spencer Henderson.

Great Falls Reston is having tryouts at LF for 2006/07 at the same time as the former MU tryout/ID sessions.

Could this be the explanation???????

Instead of keeping everyone in limbo and making us all email individually, why can’t they just update everybody via the website or mass email like anyone else. It isn’t that hard and speaks to issues of organization and past concerns.
