Where do their younger teams play (u13 and down), or do they not play league games with those age groups? |
They play internal matches, because Barca does not want to release them into the wild before they are ready, to avoid embarrassment to the brand. The lower divisions of NCSL or ODSL would make a good fit though. |
| It’s not to protect the brand. Some of the younger teams would actually win more than the older ones. League competition goes against player development philosophy. Younger ages U11-12 will be starting EDP league play in the Spring. |
I think we are saying the same thing...the U littles would be able to win against competition from the lowest division in NCSL and ODSL. They'd find it very tough if not impossible to win in the top divisions of NCSL or in CCL/NPL. I don't think anyone buys an argument that a regular league game for competition weekly goes against player development. La Masia (the official Barca academy in Spain) teams down to U8 play them. |
| well, sure, when you get to choose the best players from the area around barcelona you are up for playing anyone! |
| well, sure, when you get to choose the best players from the area around barcelona and kids of the pro team players, you are up for playing anyone! |
I thought the same thing, but after talking to a few other families I found out that there are a few handful of kids that joined this year with us that came from first teams at some of the larger clubs in the area. My son played on the first team of a large local club but we weren't happy with the coach so thought we would give Barca a try. Based on that small piece of info alone I think they could be very competitive in any league. |
I know of a small handful from last year who left us for top area teams as well. I didn't see such a net new influx of talent at tryouts to think that we will be competitive with area top teams. I think the lower divisions of leagues are still the best fit. Just trying to stay realistic. |
I’m sure the influx of talent will raise the level of the teams eventually but I would not assume taking kids from top teams will instantly translate into league dominance. Team chemistry takes time and the style of play will be an adjustment for some kids if they are used to a more physical style. Barca coaches advance teams and players when they comprehend and follow their methodology not necessarily the ones scoring all the goals. |
They have several teams that already are beating top teams in competition. go back a few pages. |
you have to understand, there are several very rabid and defensive posters in this thread, so don't expect too many rational and tempered responses to any discussion that might be conceived in any way as a negative, whether intended or not. |
What is irrational about stating that for a variety of age groups there has been an influx of talent? There was no claim that every top player in the land changed to Barcelona but each age group did pick up some players. I'm not sure how this rates as an outrageous claim or overly defensive. It is simply fact based. It is also reasonable to assume that adding talent would also add to the overall competitiveness and quality of Barca's top teams in each age group. |
| I just found this forum as we are moving to the area soon. This is the longest thread. Why so much sustained interest in this one club? Can’t figure out if that’s a good or bad sign |
it's a great sign if you like crazy. Lost of delusional folks in this thread. Or maybe just one with MPD. Hard to discern. |
